Colleen Heslin Stories of Belonging May 29 - July 24, 2025 Forest City Gallery (1025 Elias St)
Check out the current exhibition Stories of Belonging by Colleen Heslin on display until July 24th.
Stories of belonging by Colleen Heslin is an installation of six hand-dyed, sewn monochrome abstract paintings that explore colour theory and queer pride. Each work reflects on progressive stages of spiritual, emotional, and psychological awakening brought on by social disconnection and generational dysfunction within western culture. These paintings echo shifts towards presence and self-awareness, from unconscious to consciously bringing attention to subtle nuances within colour spectrums.

Artwork Documentation: Where does your image live? Collab Workshop
Saturday July 12th 1-4pm Free Facilitated by Ruth SkinnerThis interactive workshop explores what effective artwork documentation is, where it lives, and how we can use the technologies and locations available to us in creative ways. Participants will be introduced to the basics of photography (focal length, aperture, shutter speed, ISO) and ad hoc lighting situations. We’ll explore case studies of artwork documentation in different circumstances (“white cube” exhibition, live performance, video documentation, studio installation, and experimental alternatives to gallery installation for documentation). We’ll end by discussing what to be aware of when sharing work on social media and website platforms. Throughout the workshop we’ll use the gallery and surrounding area outside to practice documenting works in a variety of situations. Participants are asked to bring two- or three- dimensional work for documenting. Performance-based artists are asked to be prepared to perform briefly for the sake of live documentation. Bring your smartphone and, if you have one, your digital camera (any kind will be suitable). Facilitated by Ruth Skinner who works as an arts administrator, educator, and public programmer in London, Ontario. She is currently a teaching fellow and the Community Engagement and Outreach Coordinator for the School for Advanced Studies in the Arts and Humanities at Western University. Her research, teaching and programming interests include artists' publishing and distribution practices; digital and media literacy; histories and theories of photography; artist-run culture and advocacy in Canada; intersections of art, esotericism & forensics. Ruth has operated as the art imprint Edna Press since 2017, and is part of the Advisory Circle for the newly revitalized Embassy Cultural House.
