Gordon vs Norths (Venue Change)
This weekend we are scheduled to take on Norths in our big local derby. As everyone would be aware, we have encountered almost two weeks of constant rain, culminating in another 50mm scheduled to fall between now and Saturday, and as such, Willoughby Council has made the decision to close Chatswood Oval. This is primarily based on the investment made into the off-season into the complete re-turfing of the ground, which is obviously causing us some short-term pain. Still, the idea being long-term, these types of situations can be avoided in the future.
It was obviously not an easy decision for us to cop but the reality is we needed to move fast onto other options. We explored delaying the game to the Long Weekend, but we would have had a substantial number of players unavailable, or the other option was to look at an alternate ground for Saturday to ensure we get at least 1st Grade & 1st Colts run. North Sydney Oval was not available either, and so the decision was made to run both games back-to-back at Woollahra Oval on Saturday, and then with the rest of Grade & Colts scheduled to be played in the evening next week. Our Women's Teams are playing at Keirle Park vs Manly and are scheduled to go ahead. It should be noted that we are not the only club in this position and expect potential other changes, but we can only control what we can control. Now our job is to go out and get results, which the players are focused on.
All supporters will be welcome, there will not be any charge for entry so if you can make the trip over the bridge then get there to support both these grades and get them over the line against our arch rivals.
Also, this week we have the Mary Rossi Annual Lunch scheduled for tomorrow, which is sure to be a fantastic affair, with almost 300 guests celebrating all that is great with Gordon & Rugby, and we look forward to seeing plenty of supporters, sponsors, coaches & managers in a day of celebrating the Tartan!
