Google awakened!
After months of ChatGPT having the momentum with rapid product releases and Microsoft's relentless AI integration, Google Bard leaps into action with Gemini - igniting the rivalry. My first verdict post-Gemini update? Impressed by the content quality, response speed, and the upcoming features. Creators of all trades, it's time to give Bard another look.
Also in this edition: A deep dive into Microsoft's AI strategy and partnership with OpenAI, a fresh video app that's trending right now, and much more. Let's start exploring.

We are back to normal at OpenAI (at least the news circus moved on); this mega-long piece touches mainly on Microsoft's AI approach and partnership with OpenAI. It opens by explaining the whole Sam Altman CEO thing, but the longer part of the article focuses on how Microsoft integrates AI into its products. It's also a portrait of the CTO of Microsoft and his thinking about AI. The approach can be summed up as consciously rolling out new features, always in sync with the AI ethics team. The article paints a relatively positive picture of Microsoft's approach to AI, which started with GitHub CoPilot (launched in October 2021) aimed at developers and is now landing in every office app, from Excel and Word to Outlook. Interesting read you should take time for.

Full-time content creators, or influencers, often have more reach on a topic than professionals practicing a specific thing full-time. For example, hobbyist runners building huge audiences on social media often get paid more than professional runners for cooperating with brands. Influencers' content caters to a broader market, whereas professional athletes are often followed only by hardcore fans of the sport. While this article in Trail Runners magazine is specifically about running, this is happening beyond just in the sports world.

You might have seen videos showing creative ads from Oatly (the plant-based milk brand) and how everyone was celebrating these. Locals did not like these ads too much. "There is a dissonance between what the industry believes is "great" and what cultures and communities are in love with." a LinkedIn user mentioned in the video wrote.

Sometimes, you join online meetings, and the software lacks options for customizing your background (blurring) or the lightning. With the newest MacOS version, you get a feature to customize your appearance. In an online meeting, click the green camera icon in the menu bar. Choose portrait mode to add a blurred background, enabling studio light to touch up your appearance. And if you want, you can click reactions during a call to start a firework.

Capsule is a fresh take on video in your browser. It has 2 core features: A video editor to edit existing videos, you can add your own media, captions, AI-generated images, and more. It creates the typical video style known from TikTok, but you see them everywhere, also on LinkedIn. Another feature is collecting video testimonials. Setting it up is straightforward: Add prompts, choose a style, and send out the link. Once the videos have been uploaded, you can further edit them. Capsule is targeted at enterprise customers and starts at $250/month, but the free plan is good enough for side projects (and it does not add watermarks on export) Try it out: Send me video feedback on the Creators of All Trades newsletter. Or watch this video I made with Capsule. If you take the time to send me video feedback, you can set up a 30-minute meeting with me for free to discuss any of your projects or stuff you want feedback on, or just chat with me.

Let's revisit Metro Retro, a tool for modern working teams that's evolved significantly since I first featured it in issue 57. Initially grabbing my attention as a web app for conducting retrospectives, Metro Retro has added many more features and templates since then - and this week again, with the launch of Metro Retro 2.0. Explore the diverse range of templates or watch this short announcement video.

Any internet user can use OpenAI technology to create custom GPTs. A custom GPT is a tailored version of AI for your needs. It is based on the data you provide. Over 11 thousand custom GPTs have already been created since OpenAI launched the feature. But how can you browse those GPTs that have already been created? There is a custom GPT for that. It is called GPT Public Directory. You can describe what you are looking for and see what's available. One strong use case for such custom GPTs: The Lego Brick Box Generator

You serve one prompt, and AI creates the image, describe it again, and create a new version of the image using the AI-generated description, and so on. A Dall-E party. Example
