In a time where independently run pools in rural areas were rare to begin with and currently many institutions are closing their pools, it’s amazing to be entering our 40th year. This facility started as a gift to the community by Mary Rice and family in 1985, in 2006 Recreation and Fitness Resources (RFR) was formed to run operations, and in 2022 RFR took on full ownership and operation. Here we are! Approaching 40 years since ground breaking in 2025!

This facility has been loved and nurtured over generations by incredibly dedicated and skilled staff, board members, volunteers, and members. Through many iterations and changes over the years we have been well supported by the community.

The key to success for the Rec Center has been continually evolving- focusing on what’s most important at any given time and then doing that particular thing really well. This year we have been focused on multigenerational health and fitness. We added the Makers Space for kids to learn and play, Deep Water High Intensity Interval Training for adults looking for advanced group fitness, and expanded youth and teen classes through North Coast Community Sailing.

We repaired and updated the building exterior from the outdated 1980s brown to a modern blue-gray that connects to historical Bayfield. This winter, solar panels will be installed as a way to further bring the building into the present, and reduce our operating costs.
