From the desk of MMTA President, Dr. Derek Polischuk MMTA Members-
I hope your winter season has been positive for you both personally and professionally. I was able to attend a portion of the National Conference in Atlanta a few weeks ago, and, as usual, it was an outstanding event. I hope you'll consider attending the 2025 National Conference in Minneapolis, which will be held from March 15-19. A little closer to home, our MMTA Conference will be held on October 18 and 19 at Calvin University in Grand Rapids. Vice President Laurie Marshall and the conference committee have been working tirelessly for many months already on a slate of programming that looks like one of the most compelling and diverse programs of any conference I've attended. Bravo to the committee for their fine work. I hope to see you in Grand Rapids in October. Finally, we are searching for a Local Association Chair for the Board of MMTA. Kathy Richardson served for many years in this critical role with excellence. If you or someone you know might be qualified and interested in serving our association in this capacity, please let me know. Wishing you a resplendent Michigan spring. Sincerely, Derek Kealii Polischuk

From the Desk of SAT Handbook Chair, Jacki VanderSilk
Student Achievement News and Updates In 2024, 1482 students tested in 15 local centers. The SAT leadership team has received feedback from 10 centers through the post-SAT reports. We always appreciate both the positive compliments of the program and the “negative” or constructive criticism suggestions. While it’s an awesome program for our students, it can always improve!
The 2024 tests will be on the website sometime in May after I’ve made a few corrections. These are very helpful to use as practice tests when preparing for SAT.
Now that 2024 testing is done, it’s almost time to start planning for 2025! Many teachers choose to stay on the test writing and proofing committee year after year, but we can always use a few new members. If you are interested in knowing more about what we do or may want to join us, let me know. Thanks to all those who are on the test committee, all the local chairs, and all the many volunteers who make this important day happen every year!

The Well-Balanced Pianist 2024 Summer Program will take place at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, from July 21-26, 2024! Attendees will receive integrated instruction in the Taubman Approach, Feldenkrais Method, Aston-Patterning, and optimal mindset for practice and performance. With four expert faculty devoting themselves to a maximum of 16 participants, each student can expect plenty of personal attention.
The combination of positive, expert presentation and interactive learning fosters a nurturing community in which pianists support one another in every musical risk they choose to take. We have fun, too! You can often hear jamming and duets while walking the halls. Please visit https://www.wellbalancedpianist.com/wbpsummer2024 for more information.
