Welcome to 2024-2025
Welcome to Lakeview Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year! We are excited to have our students back for another year of learning. This newsletter includes important information to help you and your child(ren) have a smooth start to the school year. Lakeview is a school of high expectations and strong relationships. That relationship starts with communication between school and home. We invite you to read our weekly family newsletter (usually emailed on Friday afternoons during the school year, and always available on our website) and reach out with any questions throughout the year. We are truly on one team together for our students!

New Start and End Times for the School Day!

School starts at 8:15 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m.

This is 15 minutes earlier than previous years.

Please be ready for this change on the first day of school (September 3).

Doors will open at 8:10 a.m. each morning.

Who is my child’s teacher?

Find out after you complete annual re-registration!

If you complete your annual update in Infinite Campus by August 15, we send you a postcard with the name of your child's teacher. Please complete your annual update right away and then look for our postcard soon after August 15!
• Please note that we do not take family requests for particular teachers and we will not move students when you receive your postcard. Class lists are carefully created and all of our teachers are excellent at Lakeview!
• Families should not assume that because they had a particular teacher in the past that their next child will have the same teacher. With only two sections per grade level, this may have happened by chance over the years, but it is not something we plan.
• If you miss the August 15 deadline, we will still send you a postcard after you complete re-registration.

School Supply List for 2024-25
Please note that we sent home all headphones in June and students will need headphones again this school year. Lakeview is no longer selling headphones for students. Please bring all school supplies to Open House on the 28th.

School Supply List

Calendar for 2024-25 School Year
Please take time to go over the school year calendar and mark dates in your home calendar. We depend on you to know these dates and times, including the half days in 2024-25. The first day of school for all 5K-5th grade students is Tuesday, September 3rd.

5K-5th grade Calendar

4K Calendar

The school hours have CHANGED this year:
5K through 5th grade is 8:15-3:20.
All-day 4K is also 8:15-3:20, usually Monday through Thursday. See the 4K calendar above for weeks where we we have class on Friday instead of on an early release Wednesday.
Students must be in the building by 8:15 or they are tardy.
Students will be let into the building starting at 8:10 a.m. and must be picked up immediately at 3:20 p.m. (unless they are walking home or going to Rec Department after-care).
When can students enter the building?
Supervision is provided daily starting at 8:00 a.m. so please make sure your child is on the west playground each day between 8:00 and 8:10.
School doors will open at 8:10 this year and students may enter between 8:10-8:15 each day.

Where do student enter and exit?

4K - Door 9
5K - Door 10
1st Grade - Door 11
2nd and 3rd Grades - Door 7 (NEW location!)
4th and 5th Grades - Door 5 (NEW location!)

We suggest you walk over to Lakeview in the coming weeks to find the correct door before the first day of school.
Students should not arrive before 8:00 a.m. and students are not allowed to wait in the lobby before school. Students that arrive in the lobby will be directed to the west playground. Students leave through the same door as listed above unless they are on a daycare bus or going to after care provided by the SM Rec Department.

Attention 4K Families

Tuesday, September 3rd- Students with last names beginning with A through M
Wednesday, September 4th- Students with last names beginning with N through Z
Thursday, September 5th -All 4K students go to school together.

Please be sure to check our 4K calendar carefully. 4K students usually attend school Monday-Thursday. However, on weeks where there is a Wednesday half-day, 4K students attend that Friday instead of Wednesday. Please see the calendar below for exact dates.

Elementary Handbook for the School District of South Milwaukee
The four public elementary schools in South Milwaukee all share a common handbook. This handbook answers many questions that families may have and provides the guidelines for how we approach the various aspects of managing a school. We invite you to look at the handbook. You can find it on the Lakeview website under the "For Families" tab if you need to reference it again in the future.

School Nutrition
Lunch menus are available on the Lakeview website under the "For Families" tab. Check for menus once we are closer to the start of the school year. If you qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch prices (or if you wonder if you qualify), please click the link below for information and complete it right away. Be sure to complete this application or ensure your direct certification is complete before school begins. There is also information about adding money to your child's lunch account for those that do not qualify.

Hoping to Volunteer this year?
Anyone who volunteers with students in the School District of South Milwaukee must complete a background check. It is easy to do and it lasts for two years. If you have not completed it in the last year and think you will be volunteering, you may submit your background check using this link below.
