As we reach the halfway point of the year, shooting sport has been flourishing on and off the range.

The June ISSF Newsletter features some in-form athletes, positive collaboration with our fellow International Federations and the start of new era with IOC President Kirsty Coventry.

ISSF PRESIDENT AND SECRETARY GENERAL ATTEND ASOIF GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The ISSF were represented by President Luciano Rossi and Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo at the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF) General Assembly.

In Lausanne, they took the opportunity to open dialogue in person with the Organising Committee of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, while receiving updates from the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

ISSF TO MEET WITH NEW IOC PRESIDENT, KIRSTY COVENTRY IN LAUSANNE

We extend our best wishes to our new President of the International Olympic Committee President, Kirsty Coventry, on the occasion of her official inauguration.

President Coventry officially took over in the position on the 23rd of June, which is also marked as Olympic Day. ISSF President Luciano Rossi wished the first female leader of the Olympic Movement in a letter. After meeting in Lausanne during her inauguration, a meeting was agreed for October.

FIRST ISSF ATHLETES COMMITTEE INTERNATIONAL FORUM ADDRESSES KEY ISSUES

The first ISSF Athletes Committee International Forum was an opportunity for athletes from around the world to receive updates from the ISSF Athletes Committee and global leaders in sport.

Guest speakers included World Anti-Doping Agency Athlete Council Vice-Chair Gaby Ahrens and LA28 Vice President of Sports Niccolo Campriani.

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING SIGNED WITH INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL

June also brought more cooperation prior to the LA28 Olympic Games – bringing a Memorandum of Understanding together with the International Federation of American Football.

The ambition for both parties is to optimise costs and environmental impacts associated with governance.

ISSF DELEGATION VISITS OBS TO DISCUSS LA28 ROADMAP

Following on from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, an ISSF delegation visited the Olympic Broadcasting Services in Madrid, Spain to review the performance of shooting sport at the Games.

Discussions then moved onto the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, for which a roadmap for the next Olympic cycle was agreed upon.

CHENGDU QUALIFIES DOZENS OF EST OFFICIALS IN TIME FOR ISSF WORLD CUP

A positive sign for China comes in the form of over 30 officials from their Electronic Scoring Target judges’ course in Chengdu.

This allows organisers of the ISSF World Cup in Ningbo, an opportunity to provide valuable experience for some of these newly-qualified judges.

WISE NETWORK LAUNCHED BY ISSF ACADEMY

Following the successful hosting of its first WISE webinar, the WISE network – focused on the support and development of women in shooting – launched its website.

The ISSF Academy – who created the WISE network – formed the online platform which allows users to give feedback on previous events, provides resources to improve their skills in the sport and is available in 40 languages.

ISSF AMBASSADOR WALTER BORGHINO SPEAKS CISM COOPERATION

The International Military Sports Council (CISM) held its General Assembly in Colombo, Sri Lanka; and it was the first opportunity for the esteemed Walter Borghino to speak about their relationship with the ISSF.

Now acting as the ISSF Ambassador with CISM, Borghino spoke to the ISSF about the ongoing relationship with the two organisations.
