Happy New Year (can you still say that in the last week of January?).
I hope you have had a gentle start to the year, despite the fierce weather.
Fortunately the fashion for re-fashioning ourselves in the deepest, bleakest of midwinter seems to have had its day, hopefully allowing us space to do things that feed our souls and keep us warm whilst we wait for spring.
I have spent some time straightening out my workshop after it was filled with pine needles and packaging in the festive period. I found some lavender, pressed in late summer - still smelling of the long, balmy evenings.

I've also had some space to start working on some new ideas, compositions of pieces split across several frames, to sit together in a larger space. The clematis, with its tangle of climbing tendrils lends itself well to this.

The next couple of months are mostly going to be focused on producing work for exhibiting at RHS Urban, coming up in April, at Depot Mayfield in Manchester, but I am also really looking forward to teaching more flower pressing workshops. I did two of these last year, for a community group, and following a couple of enquiries, have decided to run more throughout 2024.
Workshops last two hours, during which you will press some seasonal flowers yourself, learning about the kit and technique used to produce the best results, and also mount and frame some flowers I have pressed ready for you. You will go home with a framed picture, made by yourself, and a flower press which you can use to press flowers from your own garden.
Upcoming dates include Saturday 17th February at The Pickering Arms, Thelwall and Sunday 10th March (Mother's Day) at Altrincham market. Both start at 9.30am, cost is £50 per person, including all resources and refreshments. The next will be in early summer.
If you would like to book a place you can email grownandgathered@outlook.com or contact me on Instagram @ejcalvert. You can also buy a workshop voucher as a gift, which the recipient can then use to book on a date that suits them.

For those of you who have been waiting on some pink (officially, red) seaweeds, I recently took a day trip out to Anglesey, visiting Trearddur Bay and Rhosniger and found some red rag, crinkle weed, dulse, leaf bearer and feather weed, amongst others. As well as there, there are a very small number of greens left from Gyllyngvase Beach in Falmouth.
You can get in touch to buy seaweed direct, let me know what colour/size/location you are interested in and I will send photos of what I have available. Or come and see me at Altrincham market, I will be back there the weekend of 10-11 February with these and, of course, some lovely love themed things, just in time for Valentine's day.
