European Aquatics named Sport Organisation of the Year at first SIGA Sport Integrity Awards in Riyadh
European Aquatics has been named as Sport Organisation of the Year at the inaugural SIGA Sport Integrity Awards which took place tonight at the Riyadh Exhibition & Convention Center (Malham) in Saudi Arabia.
The SIGA (Sport Integrity Global Alliance) citation said the award recognised the “remarkable governance reforms and integrity advancements” within European Aquaticsunder the leadership of its President, Antonio Silva.
It added: “Through the adoption of a comprehensive Integrity Code, the establishment of an independent Integrity Unit and measurable participation in initiatives such as the Sport Transparency Index and SIRVS (SIGA Independent Rating and Verification System) Certification, European Aquatics has demonstrated a concrete and transparent commitment to integrity and good governance. These milestones set a new benchmark for excellence and accountability across the global sporting community.”
European Aquatics Treasurer invited to the 7th European Evening of Sport
Treasurer Andida Bouma was a special guests at the 7th European Evening of Sport, which brought together more than 300 leaders from the Olympic Movement, European institutions, and the wider sporting family.
The event, held at the Representation of the State of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union, celebrated shared values and strengthened cooperation between European sport and EU institutions.
Attended by IOC President Kirsty Coventry, EOC President Spyros Capralos, EU Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport Glenn Micallef, and representatives from across the European sporting landscape, the evening underscored the strong partnership between the European Union and the Olympic Movement.
The gathering explored the theme “Sport is more than a Game” and reflected on sport’s role as a unifying force in society, particularly in times of challenge and change.
Remarking on the event IOC President Kirsty Coventry said: “We know that sport delivers real value for society. And research has shown that sport delivers the most effective, low cost but high impact tools that we have. It strengthens education, it supports communities and it improves health. And it promotes inclusion.”
European Aquatics organises first ever Integrity Webinar
A group of leading experts in integrity in sport took part in the first ever online European Aquatics Integrity Webinar on November 28.
This session aimed to enhance the culture of integrity across all levels of the sport, by raising awareness and sharing practical insights with National Federations and stakeholders.
The event will be featured as part of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) Integrity Month, underlining our shared values and cooperation with global integrity initiatives.
The opening and introduction was made by EA general secretary Noam Zwi.
Marc Cavaliero, chief ethics and compliance officer for World Aquatics and chair of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Ethics Committee, presented the European Aquatics Integrity Code, providing an overview and offering key principles and implementation guidance for National Federations before running a Q&A.
Then Juni Karvo, Supervisory Council Member of the Aquatics Integrity Unit, World Aquatics, presented a session entitled: Integrity in Practice: The Integrity Charter.
