It’s impossible to avoid conversations about the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on art. It’s all over the news, and every writer or artist I know (including me) has concerns, opinions, and questions about the topic.
And no one (including me) really knows what to do about it all.
BUT I do think that continuing to make art–including about this very topic–is critical.
Some of the most novel ideas about this subject are not in newspapers or conference panels or experts’ Substacks, but in works of art by human artists.
The novelette I’m recommending today is one of those works. It's not subtle about its focus (it’s called "I Am AI") but the story itself is full of nuance.
The questions it asks and the perspectives it offers push readers to not just to think about this possible future, but to feel our reactions to it in our guts, in the way that only art can.
