March 11, Tues - Invasive Ant Surveillance and Identification Virtual Workshop! This event, funded by USDA APHIS PPQ will take place from 9am-1pm, Pacific Time. We have an exciting lineup of nationwide speakers, and we hope you will join us to learn more about invasive ants, identification, and especially their wide range of impacts.
Participants will have a better understanding of ant biology, what’s at risk, and key invasive ant species of concern. Questions? email
March 29, Sat - Orchids & Houseplants - Blaine Library 10am-12pm
Tips and tricks for getting those orchids blooming again! We will also have an orchid dividing and re-potting demonstration. Slide presentation and "plant sale". Bring a house plant to trade. Let’s chat about general inform-ation for indoor plant care, especially during the spring months.
April 2, Wed - Ponds, WaterFeatures, Rainbarrels & Raingardens Blaine Sr/Community Center 3-5pm We will be talking about the do’s and don’t of ponds and waterfeatures! Requirements such as location, equipment/utilities, maintenance AND the fun stuff like fish and plants. We will also be discussing Rain Gardens and how they differ from a water feature. Why would you want a Rain Garden and how to integrate one into your landscape design. New rules on rain barrels make them as easy item to add to your land scaping to help save on water costs.
April 5, Sat - Severe & Summer Pruning - Blaine Library 10am-11pm
This presentation will focus on overgrown fruit trees. Using a combination of pruning techniques that quickly gets your trees in shape. Requiring some follow-up care (summer pruning) during the year to maintain the initial work done. Reduced fruit production will be over-riden by the ease of completion for the average tree. General presentation will be followed by a hands-on demo a few blocks from the Library.
April 12, Sat - Composting and Worms
Blaine Sr/Community Center 9:30-11:30am
Do you dispose of organic matter in your regular garbage? It's not a good thing for our landfills AND you are throwing away valuable soil building materials! This workshop will get you started to change that!! We will cover the basics of “food waste recycling" and how easy it is by managing worms, indoors and out! The upside - You will see huge benefits in your garden!
May 3, Sat - Container Gardening - Blaine Sr/Community Center 9:30-11:30am
Join us for an "out of the ground and into the box" introduction to container gardening. If you think that you MUST have a plot of land or maybe mobility issues have slowed you down, we want to help you NOT give up on gardening!! We will start with the basics from choosing containers and the right plants to learning how to water and feed them.
