BRIAN WILSON IN THE STUDIO PRODUCING "GOOD VIBRATIONS" (CLICK/TAP FOR SURPRISE VIDEO)
So sad to hear that two of my biggest musical inspirations passed away this week. Brian Wilson, the creative force behind The Beach Boys, and Sly Stone, the brilliant fire behind Sly and the Family Stone.
No doubt, there was a LOT of fantastic music being made in the 60s. And AM radio played all of it. The Top 40 featured music and novelty songs that appealed to virtually every audience. At any time you could hear the British sound, the Motown sound, Funk, R&B, Folk, Psychedelic, Instrumentals, Ballads, Pop Songs, Novelty songs, Movie Themes, Singer/Songwriters, Dance Songs (like The Twist, etc.) and LOTS more!
And the best part is you could remember most of these songs from beginning to end!
Brian Wilson successfully explored (and exceeded) the boundaries of pop music. Fueled by a rivalry with the innovations of The Beatles, he took The Beach Boys from vocal-driven surf and car songs (Surfin' USA, Little Deuce Coupe) to emotional ballads (In My Room, Don't Worry Baby, God Only Knows) to futuristic forays (Good Vibrations).
Brian's songwriting and studio production chops evolved similar to those of The Beatles, and that music inspired countless artists and bands to jump into the pop music pool.
Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys were the soundtrack of California. And that legacy will never die...
