NOTE: If this is your first Breadness Buzz, or if you've been part of our tribe but missed earlier posts, visit the Breadness Buzz Archive here and catch up on this content written especially for you. It's a great way to meet like-minded artisan sourdough aficionados and be part of this journey I started back in 2016. And now for this week's Buzz...

Best Wishes, Less Dishes!

Cyndie and I went to Ojai mid-January to celebrate our belated 40th Anniversary and Christmas. I took an Artisan Sourdough Breadness Bowl with us for the purpose of finding a great chowdah to fill it with! That came from Sea Fresh Seafood Restaurant & Fish Market in downtown Ojai.

The following photos show the sequence of making a wonderful dinner for two using the above ingredients, and a couple more.

Cut a circle, following the scoring line, with a steak knife. Reach all the way in and pull the center section out.

Instant bread bowl shell!

Wrap in foil and place in oven at 375 degrees for 8 minutes.

While the bread bowl is warming, get the chowdah and pour into a pan to heat up.

I added some leftover steamed broccoli from the previous night's dinner to the saucepan.

While the chowdah was simmering, I made a salad.

The Breadness Bowl is ready. Be careful when removing the foil as the releasing steam is very hot.

Pour the chowdah from the pan into the bread bowl. Only half of the pan's contents filled the bowl so there was plenty left for seconds.

This is the perfect share-the-bowl dinner, not unlike the community Tiki drinks served back in the day at places like the Tonga Room at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco. When we were done, the bowl was still in great shape, so I put it in the fridge and we had the other full container of chowdah the next night! (Re-heated the bowl and the chowdah just like the above. It was still awesome.) Then we got to eat the bowl!

Ojai Calling...

While in Ojai, we got to revisit the farm estate of Ojai Olive Oil Company. We finally got to meet Jenny, the person I've been corresponding with when I order their products for the bakery, but we'd never had a chance to meet in person, until that day.

The picnic area where tasters take their tastings to savor among the olive trees, some of which are nearly 200 years old!
