SEPTEMBER 2023 A Thriving Garden

What makes a thriving garden? We had a mid year break hiking in Austria and Germany. It was wonderful. But there was a big BUT... read below.
I have a raft of new classes planned from now until the end of the year. Scroll on through to be tempted and I'd love to see you when you book in
I've added a delectable and very easy recipe for you this newsletter. Tasty, savoury, and quick, it includes lots of fresh vegies and edible flowers ( you can buy flowers them from me, just call to order 0416157470)
And what to plant now for spring... oh what a choice we have!

What does a thriving garden look like?
What comes to mind when you read those words?
A thriving garden is the sum of the above ground and below ground parts. And when we apply pesticides, herbicides and fungicides, we kill off all manner of beneficial insects as well as those we call pests.
When we were in Austria, and Hungary, there was a distinct silence in gardens... where were all the insects - hoverflies, bees, butterflies, dragonflies... nowhere to be seen.
I suspect they've had a serious wakeup call as their insect numbers have drastically fallen.
Even banks of lavenders- no bees. And this gorgeous border planting at the Swarovski Crystal Garden near Strasborg - no bees.
My plea... Be a person who cares enough to stop the use of these chemicals in your garden.

Herbal Teas – Growing & Blending Tea Herbs
Sat 18th Nov 2023, 1:00 - 4pm So why buy your own herbal teas/tisanes if you can grow them and blend your own.
At this fun afternoon you'll be learning how and what to grow in pots or in your garden so you can pluck fresh herbs for your next cuppa.
And, you'll be delighted to harvest herbs from our organic garden straight into your pretty teapot. Of course we'll enjoy afternoon tea with our herbal teas too.
And you'll take home a bunch of fresh herbs to continue making fresh teas later. It's a real treat.

Christmas Elderflower & Elderberry Class Sun 10th Dec, 1:00-4.00pm Begin the afternoon with an elderflower mocktail. What a lovely way to celebrate Christmas early. Learn about the ways to grow this delectable plant and the cautions behind both growing and using it. Create three elderflower and elderberry delights to take home including Elderberry Jam; Elderberry Cordial and Elderflower champagne. These match the season so well with depth of flavour, colour and festive bubbles.
You’ll also taste the joys of other elderflower recipes that I make often when they are in season as we enjoy our afternoon tea.

Easy Whipped Feta Recipe
It looks great, tastes marvellous and is dead easy. It's a winner with everyone I serve it to. It's colourful and has lots of vegies. Tick of approval!
One friend even said that she ate so many more vegetables than she expected because it was all so good.
Another guest wanted a container to take it home before everyone else ate it all!

Plant in your garden now
Spring planting ideas:
Go for it in a big way. Grow lots of summer veg now for salads - lettuces, parsley, mizuna, chiocory, Michihili cabbages; tomatoes, cucumbers and beans. Still not too late for sugar snap and snow peas on trellises.
Pop in some asparagus and red onions too. They will make you a garden star when you harvest them*
Flowers include Hollyhocks, sunflowers, zinnias, cosmos and Marigolds.
And don't forget to use Organic Eco ocp Soil wetter, Instant Humus (available from me) and compost to help hold the soil moisture this dry season.
