The recent winter storm blanketed our community with heavy sleet, snow, and freezing rain, leaving behind damage to trees and personal property. While we were fortunate to avoid widespread or prolonged power outages, many residents are now beginning the cleanup process. |

The Ivy Solid Waste and Recycling Center (ISWRC) is open and available to help residents of Albemarle County, the City of Charlottesville, and the Town of Scottsville dispose of storm-damaged materials for a small fee. We accept Municipal Solid Waste, Construction Debris, Vegetative Waste, and more!
Our facility is located at 4576 Dick Woods Road in Charlottesville, VA and is open Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. When you arrive, simply weigh in at the scale house ( see site map here). Our friendly staff will direct you to the appropriate disposal area, making your visit as smooth and efficient as possible.
Bulk waste is prorated on a per ton rate with a minimum fee of $6.00. There is a service fee of $1.00 for Albemarle County residents and $10.00 for non-County residents. |

Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center to Go Cashless |
We would like to remind community residents and businesses that the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center will transition to a cashless payment system on February 2. This initiative is being implemented to streamline payment processing, reduce wait times, and improve overall efficiency at the facility. Credit cards, debit cards, and checks will be accepted. |

2025's Special Collection Statistics |
Participation skyrocketed in 2025! We saw the highest participation rates ever for Household Hazardous Waste. With two collection days in the spring and another two in the fall, we watched our vehicle counts jump by 42% when compared to 2024's numbers. |
Latex and oil-based paints accounted for over 50% of the materials we collected on those days. Flammable liquids such as gas, kerosene, and diesel accounted for 6%, pesticides also came in at 6%, motor oil came in at 4%, and aerosols came in at 2%. In total, we collected 35 different categories of hazardous materials.
As a friendly reminder, we accept latex and oil-based paints at the Ivy Solid Waste and Recycling Center year-round. Paints should be kept in their original containers. |
How Much Material Do We Take In? |
Our three facilities, the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center, the McIntire Recycling Center, and the Southern Albemarle Convenience Center, continue to offer residents an easy and reliable way to dispose of unwanted recyclables and trash. In 2025, we saw noticeable growth across both recycling and refuse.
On the recycling side, corrugated cardboard increased by 4 percent, while metals rose by 5 percent. Trash disposal also saw significant growth, with a 16 percent increase in total tonnage processed at the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center. Clean fill accounted for the largest portion at 164,633.90 tons, followed by municipal solid waste at 43,741.19 tons. The increase in waste crossing the scales highlights the important role our facilities play in meeting the region’s disposal needs. |
