Artist Lucie Chan is seeking Black men to participate in one-on-one conversations for an upcoming art project that will be developed and on view at the Khyber Centre for the Arts in Halifax.
Intention and Activities:
Each participant will sit with Lucie Chan for a one-hour, in-person conversation in the Khyber’s Window Gallery, sharing reflections on what it feels like to be you. These dialogues will inspire a series of mixed-media drawings that visually interpret Lucie’s emotional responses to the exchange. Participants do not need to be artists. During the session, you may also be invited (if interested) to contribute directly to the visual works through drawing, body prints, or text.
The artist aims to create a space for open, authentic dialogue and deep listening. Through conversation, she hopes to better understand participants’ lived experiences and emotional realities and to create responsive work.
Commitment and Compensation:
Your session will be scheduled with Lucie Chan, and take place at 12PM on Mondays (Nov 24 + Dec 1) and Thursdays (Nov 20 + 27), at the Khyber (1880 Hollis Street, Halifax).
The commitment is one session, which will last approximately one hour.
Honorarium: $200 for participation.
There may be opportunities to collaborate further beyond the initial session if there is interest.
How to Participate:
The call for participants will be open until October 25, 2025, or until all roles are filled.
Please reach out to Lucie Chan (luchan@khyber.ca) to express interest, receive more project information, or to ask questions.
