On Saturday 16th May we are incredibly excited to be playing our 1st & 2nd Grade Shute Shield fixtures in Mudgee against the Manly Marlins. Not only will this be an incredibly exciting and unique experience for players & supporters alike, but it will also allow us to support Country Rugby and specifically the Mudgee Region.

To begin we would like to thank all those who have supported this project and are helping to bring it to life especially the Mudgee Wombats, Mid-Western Regional Council, Manly Rugby Club and Sydney Rugby Union.

To assist those coming to the game this newsletter acts as a one stop shop for all the information you need, so we hope to see as many Sydney supporters as possible at the game but we also look forward to engaging with all the Country Rugby crew as well.

Getting to Mudgee

The games on Saturday are being played at the Mudgee Wombats home ground, which is at Rugby 1, Glen Willow Sporting Complex

It is approximately a 4-hour drive from Chatswood, so please take this into account with travel and it goes without saying drive safely. It should also be noted that there are roadworks around Victoria Pass and to note any potential detours as a result, for more information click here

Welcome Dinner | Friday 15th May

6pm - 10pm

The Orient Hotel (6 Lewis St, Mudgee, NSW 2850)

Join Gordon, Manly and Mudgee supporters, players and rugby mates for a sit-down dinner, great company and a true country rugby welcome.

Ticketed event – strictly capped at 80 guests

$25 per ticket includes:
- Entry to the Friday Night Welcome Dinner
- Free drink on arrival
- Gate entry to Saturday’s match day

Game Day | Saturday 16th May

Saturday will be a huge day all around with Mudgee hosting a full day of games across their Juniors, Seniors & Womens program so get in early and soak up the atmosphere. Key specifics are below:

Tickets can be purchased at the ground on the day of the game.

Adults: $10

16 & Under: Free

Please note that your Gordon Membership will not gain you access to the ground.

3:35pm: 1st Grade Gordon vs Manly

After Match Function

After 1st Grade, we encourage everyone to stay at the ground for the traditional Post Match Speeches and Boat Races, but also to enjoy the Country Hospitality organised by the Mudgee Wombats and Mid-Western Regional Council. There will be a variety of food options on offer, and the Bar will be open till late, so you can settle in and enjoy yourself at the ground, mingling with rugby folk from all over.

Mudgee Rugby Club - Since 1874

Mudgee Rugby Club is one of the oldest rugby clubs in Australia being a foundation member of the Southern Rugby Football Union formed in 1874. Only Goulburn (1872) and Albion Maitland (1873) were formed before Mudgee in Country NSW with Bathurst and Newcastle also being formed in 1874. Goulburn and Mudgee were the only country clubs to attend the inaugural meeting of the SRFU which was held at the Oxford Hotel in Sydney with R. Arnold and G.H. Cox representing Mudgee (Ref. Dr Thomas V. Hickie – A Sense of Union and They Ran With The Ball). Mudgee was recorded as attending the meetings of the SRFU from 1874 – 1876. The SRFU later became the NSW Rugby Football Union.
