A Newsletter from the School District of South Milwaukee
Learning to read is one of the most important skills students learn at school. It’s the base upon which everything is built. How we learn to read and write is a subject of constant study and how we teach it changes, too. Join us for a discussion about reading instruction in modern schools and why it doesn't look or sound the same as it did when you were a student. (Note, check out the #SMWay In the Classroom story below to see one of the methods discussed in action!)
South Milwaukee teachers and staff are working together like never before. They've organized Professional Learning Communities where they examine data and curate lessons based on that data. The above video is an example of how a team at Blakewood adapted their lessons to their students' needs.
Meet District Nurse Supervisor Stephanie Cahlamer. She's a pediatric critical care nurse, Pediatric SANE Forensic nurse and Project Adam Advocate with experience as a flight nurse, an EMT and a Firefighter.
She's also the head of a team that is more integrated in learning than ever. Modern school nursing programs are more than Band-Aids, ice packs and hugs.
Join the $1,000+ Club! Donors who give $1,000 or more to the campaign get a student-made membership card that entitles the donor to free, lifetime admission to regular-season home games.
See below for the most recent guidance for the 2022-23 school year. It greatly simplifies when to test, when to stay home, and when a mask needs to be worn. This information is also available on the District website.
COVID Testing for SDSM employees, students and families is at Door 8 on the 15th Avenue campus (see the map and image below) starting Monday, October 3. Please park in the high school lot down the hill and enter only at Door 8.
