Election Day, November 5

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Polls will be open at the Northport Town Office (16 Beech Hill Road) from 8am to 8pm. In addition to federal and state elections, there are five referendum questions on the ballot. The Maine Secretary of State has published a Citizen's Guide to the Referendum Election, available on the Secretary's website, which also includes a list of all the candidates.

Dog Licensing

Now is the time to renew your dog's license at the Town Office. All dogs, six months old and older, must be licensed each year before December 31. Because the State has introduced a new registration system this year, YOU MUST BRING YOUR DOG'S RABIES CERTIFICATE in order to register the dog. Contact Robin Coombs at 338-3819 x3 with any questions.

Waldo County Budget

Did you know:

That the current Waldo County budget totals approximately $12 million dollars and the proposed budget for FY2025 is almost $13 million dollars?
That the Waldo County Tax makes up more than 17.9% of your Northport property tax bill?
That the increase for Northport this year was 23.5%?
That Northport is the third highest taxpayer for County taxes, after Belfast and Lincolnville?
That you do not get to vote on the Waldo County tax?
That the proposed FY2025 Waldo County budget is proposed to increase 7.42%, but Northport’s share could increase by more than that?
That you can still have input on the 2025 Waldo County Budget?
That the Public Hearing for the proposed 2025 Waldo County Budget is Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. in the Waldo County Commissioners Courtroom, 39B Spring Street, Belfast, and on Zoom. The public is encouraged to attend and participate. This is a way for you have your voice heard on a large portion of your tax bill.

Upcoming Meetings

The Select Board will meet in November on Tuesday, November 12, and Monday, November 25, at 6:15pm at the Town Office.

Agendas and minutes are available on the website. If you have anything you would like to add to the agenda, please contact James Kossuth at administrator@northportmaine.org or 338-3819x6 by the Wednesday before the meeting.

Fiber Optic Internet Update

GWI crews are still working in a couple sections of Phase II. GWI expects to complete final testing and customer hook-ups on Glenwood Lane in the coming weeks.

All Northport residents who have not already done so are encouraged to call GWI and schedule installation while GWI crews are still actively working in Town. This will allow the GWI bucket truck to run the cable from the street to the residence sooner.

Waldo CAP Neighbor for Neighbor

Applications for Waldo CAP's 2024 holiday assistance program are now available. Applications for Christmas food or gifts are due by November 27. See the WCAP website for more information or to apply.

Rabies Clinic

The Waldo County Pet Food Pantry is hosting a rabies clinic on Saturday, November 9, from 9am-11am at the Belfast VFW (34 Field St, Belfast). See Facebook for more information.

Town Office and Transfer Station Thanksgiving Hours

Please note that the Town Office will be closing for Thanksgiving at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 27. The Office will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, and the Transfer Station will be closed on Thursday, November 28. Both the Town Office and Transfer Station will resume regular hours on Saturday, November 30.
