Walking School Bus in the News!
Lakeview's walking school bus was featured on CBS58 this week.  Erica Bugalski, one of our 4th grade teachers, is the staff member who has coordinated the Walking School Bus, and it takes a team of people to make it work from our 3 different starting points on half days.  Mrs. Bugalski is an "Everyday Hero" for her work on this, and you can see that in the news story linked below.  Our next walking school bus will be on Feb 28.  It gets bigger every time (especially as the weather warms up!)
In the pictures below, you will see that we were joined by firetrucks and an ambulance - more heroes who take care of us in emergencies!  We were also joined by elected officials State Senator Chris Larson as well as SDSM School Board members Angie DeFord and Patrick Hintz.

January Attendance
Being in school and on time every day is essential.  Our cold weather in January made it trickier, and we appreciate our families that made sure students were here.  Here is the data from January:

115 students were at school EVERY DAY in January
113 students missed 1-2 days in January
52 students missed 3 or more days in January

192 students were never late to school in January!  That is almost 70% of Lakeview on time every day!
January Positive Behavior
We provide updates to our families every month on our behavior statistics.  So far this year, 67% of students have not had a single behavior incident at all! Another 17% have had just 1 incident all year. That means 83% of students have had 0 or 1 incidents (try that at home for 5 months!) 12% of students have 2-5 incidents and 5% of students have 6 or more this year.

We also had 123 Golden Lions in January, bringing our total count to 654 (as of February 9).  We are almost 2/3 of the way to 1000 Golden Lions - our goal for the year.
February 9th is Lakeview's 100th Day of School, and many of our classes celebrated with fun activities.  The picture above is

Reading for pleasure inside and outside of school has real and long-lasting benefits. Please come to our book fair and help shape your child's reading habits.
See you at the book fair!

This year say hello to eWallet, a super-convenient, secure digital payment account, for the Scholastic Book Fair.  Setting up an eWallet for your child empowers them to chose their own books and effortlessly check out during the Book Fair.  Any leftover funds can be saved for future Fairs.
