Meet CaUFC’s Newest Board Member Ken Knight has 25 years of experience and training in arboriculture with ASCA (RCA, TPAQ), ISA (BCMA, TRAQ), and SAF (CUCF). Ken operates his own consulting arborist company in Goleta, California as well as being President since 2014 of the urban forestry nonprofit Your Children's Trees and Technical Advisor to the student organization Your Children's Trees at UCSB. Ken previously served on the WCISA Board of Directors and was a former co-chair of the Central Coast Urban Forests Chapter.

Applications Open for the Natural Areas Conservancy’s 2025 Forest in Cities Network
The Natural Areas Conservancy’s Forests in Cities (FiC) program is now accepting applications for new cities to join its 2025 Network Cohort. This initiative aims to advance healthy forested natural areas in cities across the U.S. through science, partnerships, and communication. Explore FiC’s application guidelines to learn more. Apply by July 12 to be considered. Application Requirements:
Must work in urban forested natural areas in a city with a population over 50,000 Applications are open to U.S. cities not currently represented in the FiC network Cities must assemble a team of three practitioners, representing government agencies, non-profits, universities, or other partners—all of whom must be directly involved in the care, protection, or study of forested natural areas
Once accepted, teams will contribute at least one short case study highlighting an aspect of their local work and share relevant materials with FiC’s online resource library.

Mediterranean Oak Borer discovered in Marin County
The beetles were previously discovered in Napa County in 2019 and since have been found in nine California counties. The species is native to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. "The pest typically targets already stressed valley oaks, weakening them further and making large limbs brittle and prone to breakage,” said Scott Wise, Marin’s assistant agriculture commissioner.
