Starchild, from Cambridge, Ontario was originally Bob Sprenger, Rick Whittier, and Neil Light, who played in a steady gigging band called Gaslight and later, Thorne. Deciding to reform as a heavier rock band, they chose the name from Starchild Trilogy written by Frederik Pohl and Jack Williamson. After going through a few different drummers, they hired Greg "Fritz" Hinz (later with Helix) and hit the road full time. The band toured with fellow Canadian rockers Triumph, Goddo, and Moxy throughout Canada.
Surviving members and Fans mourn the loss of "Fritz" who passed away this February 2024 and in 2015, Rick Whittier.
