Congratulations to our

Green Destinations Awarded Destinations

The Green Destinations Awards and Certification Program enables destinations to have their sustainability performance independently assessed and apply for Awards or Certification when sufficient levels of sustainability are achieved.

We would like to congratulate the following recently awarded destinations. You can find our Green Destinations Collection of awarded and certified destinations here

Centred on rich historical, natural, and cultural heritage, Tivat aims to leverage its status as an authentic Mediterranean small town by providing unique and diversified experiences to guests of modern, sustainable lifestyles. Sustainability through balanced economic, environmental, and social development is recognized as one of the main goals in the tourism development strategy by the destination for 2024. This integration of sustainability to the tourism brand of Tivat will ensure an added value in all three dimensions of tourism activities while establishing harmonic relationships between the locals and the tourists.

Baiona's consistent commitment to its environment, local tradition, and certification of local tourism companies has helped the destination maintain a high quality of tourism. Baiona is the first municipality in the region to launch the "Beaches without smoke" initiative, urging users not to smoke on the sandbanks to reduce pollution. Today, all the beaches in the municipality are smoke-free; the regional government has replicated this initiative in numerous sandy areas in Galicia. Additionally, the beaches are accessible to visitors with physical disabilities, further strengthening its sustainability commitment.
Pafos Region

Pafos Region, with its noteworthy commitment to sustainability and responsible tourism, aims to harness the tourism demand by establishing effective local supply chains. Offering a memorable experience for the tourist, this approach also provides a clear economic benefit to local communities, coastal towns, and villages marginalized by mass tourism while minimizing adverse socio-economic and environmental impacts. Through numerous projects with local stakeholders, Pafos Region demonstrates the positive effects of sustainable tourism on the island's environment, society and economy.

The 2022 Top 100 Stories list will be unveiled on the 27th of September

The 8th edition of the Green Destinations Top 100 list will be unveiled on World Tourism Day at Green Destinations 2022 - Future of Tourism Summit, in Athens. This year again, Green Destinations is proud to celebrate Good Practice Stories from destinations globally as inspiring examples for other destinations, tour operators, tourism experts and professionals and the general public.

Is Sustainable Gastronomy Possible? Here is the Truth about the Food Production Chain

Gastronomy is the study of the relationship between food and culture. Sustainable Gastronomy is the community-benefiting and planet-protecting network of farmers and diverse businesses that together bring the farm to the frying pan. A research blog by the Good Travel Guide takes you inside the food industry and disassembles it into its main parts to show you why it’s not sustainable and what farmers and businesses need to do to protect communities, animals, and our planet.
