Welcome to your

Weekly Update

Dear Friends

Rejoicing in the events of the week
During the Spirit of Christmas event on Saturday afternoon, many from our community came into the church and were greeted by a variety of activities. My grateful thanks to everyone who made it such a good event. We are blessed in having such a beautiful and flexible building in the middle of this village. On Wednesday, Polesden Lacey Infants were in school to make Christingles as well as light them … which the children and teachers loved. And on Tuesday and Wednesday Great Bookham School were in church for their Christingle, a faithful proclamation of the centrality of Jesus in the Christmas story.

Don’t forget Bloom Breakfast
Bloom Breakfast, an event for women, takes place this coming Saturday 9.00am to 10.30am in the Pastoral Centre. It is an opportunity to meet with other women for refreshment, fellowship and encouragement. This time, Bookham’s Anna Chaplain, Liz Tapp, will be speaking on ‘Spiritual Care of the Elderly’. To book, please e-mail ali.sangwine@stnicolasbookham.org.uk. Tickets cost £5.

Thank you for supporting The Children’s Trust at Tadworth
It was heartening to see so many gifts brought to the front last Sunday in support of The Children’s Trust at Tadworth which helps children who have complex needs, some with sensory impairment. Thank you, everyone. Looking ahead, we hope to bless the work of LeatherHead Start through the provision of food and other items. Please sign the list in the Tower to indicate what you are willing to provide and drop your gift in the blue tray by the Rectory front door by 22 December. Thank you.

The trellis is back!
Our grateful thanks to the Eco Team for the provision of the Christmas card trellis. This is an initiative to reduce waste and create an attractive display in the South aisle. If you would normally send multiple cards to your friends at St Nicolas, please do use the trellis and send just one card instead. You may add your single card at any time before Christmas Day. A supply of pins will be provided; you don’t even need an envelope. Thank you.

Keeping up to date
Our weekly notice sheet is available online (click here) and in church. Please do keep a close eye on it these coming weeks; there are lots of good things happening. The December/January magazine is also now available, both in church and online (click here), as is the latest edition of Team Spirit, news from the local churches (click here). Moments from our 10 o'clock service last Sunday are also available; click here to access.

And finally…
From Morning Prayer this week, “Lord, help us minister to others in ways that validate and authenticate them as fellow children of God. Keep us from daring to assume that our good fortune is of our own doing or that our ability to serve is anything other than a gift. Amen.”

Wishing you much joy and peace.

Alan
