The Annual General Meeting of the Members of the Midtown Ravines Group will be held on Tuesday, April 14th in the meeting room of 20 Avoca Avenue.

 

Attendees are welcome to gather at 5:00 pm, and the formal component of the AGM will begin at 5:30 pm.  The program will also include the following components:

5:00  --  Meet and greet.  Join us for a glass of wine! 

5:30  --  Business meeting (Treasurer's report, confirmation of directors, co-chairs report)

5:45  --  Update on Vale of Avoca Project from Toronto Parks and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA)

6:00  --  Comments from Councillors Saxe and Matlow

6:30  --  Summer plans for inventorying ravine ecology and related challenges by Stephen Smith of Urban Forestry Associates

6:45  --  Other questions, issues

Formal membership of the Midtown Ravines Group consists of 10 participating midtown residents' associations.  We welcome members of the community interested in attending the AGM.  Due to space limitations, we require that you contact us in advance to reserve a spot.

Once again neighbours will join together to conduct an epic north-to-south cleanup of the Vale of Avoca.  As in previous years, the cleanup will take place over two consecutive weekends.  We'll start at the north end near the connection to Mount Pleasant Cemetery, and then work our way south.  The second weekend will focus on areas to the south of the ravine access trail down from Avoca Avenue.

The goal is to collect us much trash and litter as we can, ensuring the ravine is in good shape as spring progresses.

  

Saturday April 18 and Sunday April 19

Start-time:  9:00 AM 

Finish:  noon

MEETING PLACE:  We'll have a welcome table at  the Jeffrey Mann Landing where Heath Street East runs eastward from Yonge and reaches the ravine (behind Deer Park School).  For those coming from other directions, you can make your way to the bottom of the ravine's north end.  A group will also meet at Heath Crescent west of the ravine.

   

Saturday April 25 and Sunday April 26

Start-time:  9:00 AM

Finish:  noon

MEETING PLACE:  Our welcome table will be on the east side of Avoca Ave. near the gated entrance to the paved trail that goes down into the ravine, just south of Pleasant Blvd. 

If you can't be there for 9am (on any of the days), you're welcome to join in any time.  Depending on when you arrive, the welcome table will direct you to an area of the ravine requiring attention.

WHAT TO BRING:  solid footwear or work boots, work gloves, weather appropriate clothing; safety glasses are a good idea.  We have some gloves available if you don't have any.  A trash grabber can also come in handy.

Garbage bags will be provided to participants.

  

Our organizing committee will monitor the weather and will circulate a notification if the weather is so bad to warrant cancellation or postponement.  Otherwise we hope to see you out there!  

We'll be happy to confirm volunteer hours for high school students.
