Cyclist struck by construction truck on Avenue Road in Yorkville dies in hospital

We don't yet know all the facts of this case, but we do know that this 6-lane, 2.1km section of Avenue Road is dangerous for people on foot and on bikes, and even in cars – a matter that the Avenue Road Safety Coalition has continuously raised with local councillors and the city for seven long years. Today's death is all the more tragic for its predictability.

City Transportation staff have developed options to correct the serious concerns along this stretch of Avenue Road. They are ready and must move forward.

Together we must press for tangible changes to make Avenue Road a more people-friendly, climate-friendly, and efficient transportation corridor that is safe for everyone, including walkers, wheelers and drivers.

Email the decision makers.

Tell them we are counting on them to:

Make safety a priority.
Request that the City staff report recommending safety improvements for the 2.1 km section of the Avenue Road corridor be presented to the Infrastructure and Environment Committee before the summer recess.
Implement the recommended options in the City staff report.
