Breadness Buzz - Sourdough September, The Art of Trader Joe's, Healthy Sweets...

Sourdough September is Here!

FOR REAL! We look forward to this month each year because there actually is an organization that established SOURDOUGH SEPTEMBER in 2013, The REAL BREAD CAMPAIGN. Here's an overview from their website:

The Real Bread Campaign's annual, celebration of genuine sourdough bread and people who make it.

The ninth month of the year is when we go on a mission to help everyone discover that: life’s sweeter with sourdough!

Launched in 2013, the main aims of #SourdoughSeptember are encouraging people to:

Bake genuine sourdough bread.
Buy genuine sourdough bread from small, independent bakeries
Boost the Real Bread Campaign, run by the charity behind Sourdough September.

For 12 months of the year, the Campaign promotes Real Bread in general, with September being a focal point for sourdough in particular.

Sourdough September is run as an opportunity for genuine sourdough bakers and baking teachers to showcase what they do.

It's also time to shout louder than usual 'say no to sourfaux' to alert people to this problem and help them avoid paying a premium for something that simply isn't the real deal. The Real Bread Campaign coined the word sourfaux in 2015 to highlight the corporate hijack of ‘sourdough’ to promote products produced by other means.

In celebration of Sourdough September, and to make award-winning Breadness more available to all, for the first time we are offering Half Loaves of our Traditional Artisan Country Bread for, you guessed it... Half Price! (No photo available yet since I just came up with this idea!)

The Art of Trader Joe's...

Ever wonder how the signs and price tags at Trader Joe's are created? We don't usually give it much thought, but when you think about it, Trader Joe's is different from most markets in one significant category: Signage and Price-Tag Art! It's whimsical, friendly and inviting. It makes you feel like you're back in time shopping at the local General Store, right?

Well, it just so happens that one of our long-time Breadness customers, Erin, is one of the artists responsible for creating these amazing, hand-drawn signs. That's right. These aren't corporate-generated, mass produced pieces. This is ART! And TJ's employs a team of awesome artists to keep the creativity flowing. It's one of the reasons shopping at TJ's is FUN (once you find a parking spot...).

So next time you're shopping at Trader Joe's, take a moment to admire the handiwork of Erin and her colleagues. (All the TJ's images shown here are by Erin!)
