The Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards at ITB Berlin 2024 successfully celebrated the most inspiring and innovative initiatives in sustainable tourism globally. The ceremony was hosted at the impressive “Blue Hall” of ITB Berlin in the presence of around 250 participants. We congratulate all the winning destinations and express our gratitude for inspiring the global tourism industry to pursue more sustainable development. Special thanks to ITB Berlin for their continuous support, especially to Rika Jean-Francois, ITB's Commissioner for Corporate Social Responsibility and Ryan Fuller, Product Manager at ITB. Ä°zmir Metropolitan Municipality to begin its sustainable tourism certification journey with Green Destinations |

The beginning of spring has signified a new vision of sustainable tourism for İzmir, which signed an agreement with Green Destinations. İzmir, Turkey's third-largest city, marks a significant achievement as it prepares to become the first entire metropolitan area in the country to apply for sustainable tourism destination certification. Under the coordination of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Directorate of Tourism, the certification process will involve several stakeholders from regions around the province where tourism is already well established. İzmir’s journey with Green Destinations began in 2023 when the Efeler Yolu Culture Route made it into the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list.

The Good Travel Seal (GTS) business certification is recognised by leading industry players for its role in empowering travel businesses to validate and communicate their sustainability efforts. In doing so, attracting the growing pool of eco-conscious travellers seeking more sustainable travel options. In a recent development aimed at combating greenwashing, Booking.com has phased out its green leaves badges for sustainable hotels as of 25 March 2024. Presently, the platform acknowledges only those establishments that have acquired third-party sustainability certifications. This adjustment positions the GTS business certification as one of the foremost and most cost-effective solutions for businesses aiming to align with Booking.com’s sustainability criteria. Hungary's first Green Destinations TrainingRegistrations now open! |

Registrations are now open for Hungary's first Green Destinations training on 17 April 2024 at Hotel Palota Lillafüred, Miskolc, Hungary. The event will showcase the connection and interdependence of sustainable destinations and services, delivered by Innotime Hungary - the Hungarian, Slovakian and Romanian representation of Green Destinations - and renowned foreign experts. The Green Destinations training day is aimed at tourism professionals from municipalities and regions, as well as tourism business managers interested in sustainability and certification. The guest speakers for the event are Anula Galewska from Travindy, Poland, and Helga Lukac from the Murska Sobota Development Agency, Slovenia.
The training day will be followed by the "GASTOUR - non-wood forest-based gastronomy and ecotourism" international conference jointly organised by the Bükki Kör and Innotime Hungary Kft. on 18-19 April 2024.
