Earlier this month we partnered with a group of Latin American artisans called Ti Toro Miko to host a 4-day event celebrating Indigenous heritage in Times Square.
The event included an academic conference, film festival, fashion show, live music and folkloric dances.
This presentation comes at an important time when discrimination and economic hardship is at a high for migrant populations.
At Collective Focus, we speak directly with impacted families: our network consists of recently arrived migrants as well as immigrants living here for many years. Despite their diverse experiences, they all have something in common.
People speak of the cultural erasure they experience in the process of assimilating to a new, stable life in America.
Collective Focus prioritizes the distribution of essential items like food and clothing. In 2 years we provided close to 300,000 pounds of goods to nearly 70,000 people.
However, many of our team members also recognize the importance of validating cultural history for people regardless of their family's origin.
This is why we are honored and proud to create these vital experiences of cultural preservation.
Our initiatives are as unique as the artists participating!
