The GD2023 Global Conference held in Estonia was a great success, attended by 264 participants from 43 countries. The conference served as a valuable platform to exchange innovative solutions and best practices for effectively managing tourism destinations.

The Green Destinations Awards and Certification Program enables destinations to have their sustainability performance independently assessed and apply for Awards or Certification when sufficient levels of sustainability are achieved. Plitvice Lakes National Park Croatia ðŸ‡ðŸ‡·
Characterised by 16 lakes and numerous waterfalls created by the tufa formation process, Plitvice Lakes National Park is the oldest and largest national park in Croatia, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List as natural heritage since 1979. The Park strives to be an example of good management of a protected area in cooperation with the local community and stakeholders, where preserved nature is the basis of sustainable development.Â

Niseko Japan 🇯🇵
Niseko aims to become an "International Environmental Resort City" by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. They aim to achieve virtually zero emissions by promoting appropriate forest management and other relevant actions. The city is home to Yotei, also known as Mt. Ezo Fuji, and the Shiribetsu River, which is known to be the clearest in Japan. Niseko has a resort-like atmosphere with plenty of nature to enjoy. One can go rafting during the summer or skiing during the winter.

Granville Terre et Mer France 🇫🇷
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, located in the Bay of Mont Saint Michel, Granville Terre et Mer comprises 32 communes stretching over 42 km of coastline between harbours, cliffs, sandy beaches, foreshore and wetlands, and still retaining their traditions. Green Destinations Regional Training Event in Medjmurje |

The inaugural Green Destinations Regional Training Event was held at Terme Sveti Martin in MeÄ‘imurje (Croatia), a Green Destinations Silver warded destination. The event brought together leading experts in sustainable tourism and critical stakeholders in the tourism economy.Â
|

|
Over three days, participants were introduced to trends and practical ways of sustainable management of tourist destinations, protected areas, and tourism companies. The Green Destinations Regional Training Event in Međimurje was supported by representatives from relevant institutions and organisations from Croatia, including the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Croatian National Tourist Board, Europe Direct Čakovec, as well as directors of numerous tourist boards and stakeholders of tourist destinations from the region. The event was organised by Tourism Lab in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Green Destinations and hosted by the Međimurje County Tourist Board.

Green Destinations supports the Bhutan SUSTOUR Project |

The Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators (ABTO), the Hotel &Restaurant Association of Bhutan (HRAB), the Allianz Selbständiger Reiseunternehmen (ASR) and the European Centre for Eco and Agro Tourism (ECEAT) are partners in the Bhutan SUSTOUR project to promote sustainable tourism by integrating MSMEs into sustainable supply chains and raising consumer awareness in the country.

|
The Bhutan SUSTOUR Project supports various levels of the country’s tourism sector. At the national level, the tourism industry emphasises an enabling policy environment, which supports the Royal Government of Bhutan in its efforts to sustainably develop Bhutan’s small and medium enterprises. At the destination level, the collaboration between different tourism stakeholders is supported through the supply chain development of more sustainable products and services. Finally, at the level of the individual tour operators, the focus will be on supporting the implementation of sustainable consumption and production practices in tourism-related enterprises. Green Destinations supports the project through the European Center for Eco and Agro Tourism. The Bhutan SUSTOUR Project is funded by the Switch Asia Project, financed by the European Union.
