Hi friend, In honor of yesterday being the official pub day for Finance for the People, I’m sharing a quote from the scientist, astronomer, and author, Carl Sagan, on the magic of books: "What an astonishing thing a book is. It's a flat object made from a tree with flexible parts on which are imprinted lots of funny dark squiggles. But one glance at it and you're inside the mind of another person, maybe somebody dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, an author is speaking clearly and silently inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic." Source: Cosmos, Part 11: The Persistence of Memory Thanks to everyone for spreading the word about Finance for the People! And to everyone who has been reading this newsletter over the years. I don’t think I would have been given the opportunity to write a book if I hadn’t been writing this newsletter. I appreciate you. We did it! Your favorite finance friend,

1. 🧐 Understanding financial basics (GMA) Here’s my Good Morning America segment for their show GMA3: What You Need to Know. I hope you like it. It was a roller coaster of emotion making it happen. 2. 🤐 Why Can’t People Talk About Their Money? (Bloomberg) A Q&A with yours truly on facing your financial fears, learning the art of salary negotiation and why investing in crypto is a form of “schmuck” insurance. (If that paywall gets ya, the interview is also here.) 3. 📉 When the stock market plunges, keep your head on a swivel (The Hustle) Wise words and sage advice from Morgan Housel. 4. 💰 Rise of the Numismatist: Coin Collecting Versus Bitcoin (The New York Times) 5. 🧘♀️ “Everything is content”: Inside the daily grind of one of India’s biggest influencer families (Rest of the World) “The market is designed to be a place where these scarce resources of society — capital, labor, materials — are allocated to their most efficient use,” he said. “But it has just become this otherworldly casino, which is disconnected from the real world.” 6. 🤓 A bookkeeping thing - Five Things You Thought Your Accountant Was Doing (HYG Original) 7. 👥 The ‘Zelle Fraud’ Scam: How it Works, How to Fight Back (Krebs on Security) “Remember the mantra: Hang up, Look Up, and Call Back. If you receive a call from someone warning about fraud, hang up. If you believe the call might be legitimate, look up the number of the organization supposedly calling you, and call them back.” 8. 🎰 Striking It Rich in the Meme-Coin Casino (The Intelligencer) “Recently, I made $2,000 in an hour on one small coin, and two days ago I made $30,000 in 24 hours. I think this is all stupid and absurd. But at the same time, I’m not going to complain — I don’t want my life to change too much. But if I do make it out with a lot of money, it would be easier to justify taking a job that is not as competitive, as opposed to feeling the need to go for the most high-pressure, high-paying job. I don’t really want to work that hard.”
