Customer Quote of the Week:

"None of the other bread we tried comes close to your bread."  — Mary

The Loaf of the Party for New Year's Eve...

HAND MODEL AND  PHOTO OF BREADNESS ARTISAN SOURDOUGH BY ELIZABETH BREAZILE. COMPOSITE PHOTO BY R.M. TOBIN.

My memories of New Year's Eve are all about the food. Mom always featured the classic Onion Dip (Lipton Onion Soup mix and sour cream) with Fritos Corn Chips along with Cocktail Weenies in Barbeque Sauce. On the more healthy side, mom had celery sticks and black olives. I'm sure there were more items in her spread but those are the ones I've never forgotten.

Nowadays, I endeavor to bring "the loaf of the party" when invited to gatherings of friends and family. This New Year's Eve will likely feature some kind of charcuterie board and our organic artisan sourdough breads are the perfect complement to the cheeses, meats, honeys and jams on display. You can even elevate the occasion by bringing a hostess gift from our collection of artisan jams, honeys, balsamics, olive oils and tapenades. Feel free to come to the bakery this weekend and put your New Year's swag bag together in time for Sunday night.

NEWS FLASH: Now Open on Thursday!

The past 5 weeks have demonstrated that we have exceeded our capacity for the demand of our artisan sourdough breads, being open 3 days a week. The time has come to add another day to our "open for business" schedule and that day is now Thursday from 12 to 6pm! This means that our small but mighty crew will be starting on Monday with the first step of the dough-making process. And that also means that we will be at the bakery 7 days a week to be open 4 days: Thursday through Sunday.

I made the flash decision to be open this past Thursday, and with no prior promotion (and all of our current promo postcards still showing "open Friday through Sunday"), we did some brisk business. So from here forward, you'll be able to come by for your Breadness one more day in the week! As the saying goes: "If you bake it, they will come..." Tell your family and friends!

Our Breadness-mobile turns 20!

It was December 28, 2003, when Cyndie and I went to North Hollywood Toyota to get a new Prius to replace our ailing Nissan Stanza. Why North Hollywood Toyota? Because one of my studio client's husband worked in the financing department there, so I figured he'd get us a good deal on the Prius. Why a Prius? Because my good friend Steve bought one of these first generation Priuses a couple years earlier and loved it. So that's what I wanted, but only if it could pass my test...

It was daytime and we arrived at the dealership. I had to find out if this car could make it up a certain steep driveway with a driver and two passengers. Amazingly, it did, without any hesitation!

Next step was locating the car in the color we wanted (white) and with the desired accessories (6-CD changer and floor mats; isn't it funny how floor mats are not included in the base vehicle package?!). The dealer finally found one at a dealership in Torrance, and he had it driven up to NoHo.

Then we started the financing dance and by close to midnight, we were driving our brand new 2002 Prius home (not a typo; this was a brand new 2002 Prius that we purchased at the end of 2003!).

At some point we named it Galileo, like the shuttlecraft in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Today, Galileo is the mobile ambassador for Random Acts of Breadness! And in the next few weeks, Galileo will pass the 200,000 mile milestone! Happy 20th, Galileo!

What an incredible year it has been...

It's hard to imagine that this little idea I had back in November 2016 to make sourdough bread at home, for fun and giving, would eventually become a place in our community where this bread has brought so much joy to so many. We've made so many friends, helped many people improve their health through better food choices, and have had so much fun ourselves. We are thankful not only for you, our customers/ambassadors of our bakery, but also to our artisan suppliers of the finest ingredients and products that go into the Breadness experience.

In the coming year, I'm looking forward to presenting a few after-hours events such as "Shots and Sourdough" olive oil tasting and "Tea Toast and Jam" featuring teas from our neighbor, Geeky Teas and Games, and our sourdough breads paired with Laura Ann's Jams, NuttZo Nut/Seed Butter, Clif Family Honey Spreads and, let's not forget, Raw Farm Butters! I'm also looking at hosting a "Soup and Sourdough" private event that will allow you to sample some amazing soups by a wonderful local soup chef and good friend, Nava.

So keep reading the Breadness Buzz to find out when these events will becoming up on the calendar!
