A celebration of local music – Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre
Saturday 18 May

This was a fabulous night of entertainment at Stamford's Corn Exchange Theatre on Saturday 18 May. As a community station we are committed to supporting local artists and are delighted to be teaming up with the Corn Exchange for this exciting new venture, showcasing an array of local musical talent.

The line up for Rutland and Stamford Sound on Stage included Hayley Sanderson, one of the lead singers on Strictly Come Dancing. Hayley lives locally and trained at The Key Theatre and at local dance schools.

Also on the bill were local singer/songwriters Chloe Lorentzen, from Stamford, and Grace Arnold, from Uppingham. We regularly play Chloe and Grace's music on-air and are thrilled that they were able to join us on stage at the Corn Exchange.

In addition, the evening's entertainment featured a snapshot of the local musical theatre scene, with Stamford Showstoppers and Rutland Musical Theatre performing a selection of specially rehearsed numbers and musical theatre favourites.

Completing the line-up was a new vocal group, Broadway Bao, providing an opportunity to see one of the area's up and coming acts.

Rob Persani, Mick Meadows and other presenters introduced the acts and there was a chance to see Gavin Ashley-Cooper, presenter of our Sunday evening Musical Directions show, accompanying Hayley Sanderson on stage.

We hope to have another showcase in the future, so if you missed this one, watch this space!
We are now on DAB

We reached a major milestone at the start of May when we launched a trial of a digital broadcast on DAB+ radio in the local area. This is the culmination of a lot hard work behind the scenes by Rob Persani and a large number of volunteers.

The trial, lasting three months, aims to assess whether DAB+ is a viable option to listen to Rutland & Stamford Sound. If successful, we plan to roll out DAB+ alongside the current online options.

To help us improve the service we are keen to hear your experience of listening on DAB+, either at home or in the car. We need feedback from people who do not have good reception, as well as from those who can hear us loud and clear. Thank you to all of the listeners who have responded already. Click to learn more!

You can still continue to listen on Amazon smart speakers, on our mobile phone apps and online.
Pop-up radio

We will be out and about this summer staging a series of pop-up radio events. While many of you will be used to seeing us at events across the local area, this summer’s pop-up radio is an opportunity for us to take community radio to new places. As well as using the pop-up radio events to help people learn about their community radio station, we will also be teaming up with local organisations who have important messages to share on services available to help with matters such as mental wellbeing and cost of living pressures. The venues for the next month will be:

  • Caldecott Village Hall, Wednesday 8 May, (10am to 12 noon)
  • Easton on the Hill, Birch Tree café, Thursday 16 May, (11am to 1pm)
  • Stamford, Mindspace Wellbeing Garden on Uffington Road, Wednesday 22 May, (10am to 12 noon)
  • Stretton, Jackson Stops, Wednesday 29 May, (10am to 12 noon)
  • Oakham Town Centre (Gaol Street), Weds 5 June, (10am to 12 noon)

Please come along and say hello to Rob and the team. Pop-up radio will continue during June and July and we still have some free dates. If you would like to host a Pop-up radio event in your community, however large or small, please get in touch.
