The Los Angeles Times said Hopkinson has “an imagination that most of us would kill for,” and I absolutely agree. 

Jamaica Ginger and Other Concoctions is Hopkinson’s most recent collection of short stories, each of which draws on influences from her life as a Afro-Caribbean and Canadian woman to spin striking sci-fi and fantasy tales.

From nanobots that make anti-racist art, to a pig who talks through an illegal implant, to a discarded potato eye that buds into an otherworldly creature, the breadth of creativity in Hopkinson’s stories is incredible. 

While the ideas underpinning her stories are profound, she writes about ordinary people in accessible, and often humorous, ways.
