Enjoy Burbank's Summer Concerts under the stars and 6 chances to win a $50 Breadness Gift Card!

Burbank is home to one of the best concert venues in So Cal! The Starlight Bowl, nestled in the hills above Stough Park, just north of the iconic Castaway Restaurant and Banquet Center, has the advantages of the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theatre, but scaled back a bit to be a more intimate experience. Event tickets and parking fees are affordable and although the parking is stacked, even a full lot will be cleared of cars in about 20 minutes. The Starlight holds about 5000 people that can enjoy the concerts from reserved seats, 4-seat boxes or the lawn behind the boxes. Each show, dozens of guests make their way to the front of the stage and dance the night away (my wife Cyndie is one of them!).

The Fab Four is the reason we've had season tickets to the summer series since 2004. Cyndie and I first experienced this amazing Beatles tribute band in early 2003 on the Tomorrowland Stage at Disneyland. Their first set was in classic Beatles suits with the haircuts that took America by storm in 1964. (Besides looking the part, they also play the part impeccably! The music is note-for-note and the voices are uncannily close to their namesakes.) When the Tomorrowland stage reappeared an hour later, the band were wearing the iconic Sgt. Pepper's colorful uniforms (along with hair and mustaches) and played the songs from that era. The last set saw yet a third costume change to the later Beatles period with songs from the White Album, Let It Be, Abbey Road and John Lennon's "Imagine." There were so many people wanting to see The Fab Four that night, that we only got a glimpse of them from the side. So when we found out they were coming to Burbank's Starlight Bowl in July of that year, we were thrilled! That is, until we packed a picnic and headed up the hill to the Bowl. When we got to Sunset Canyon and Walnut, we were greeted with a sign: SOLD OUT! Must have ticket to proceed. What a BUMMER!

Not wanting that to happen ever again, I did the research and learned that the only way to be guaranteed seats for The Fab Four was to purchase season tickets. And in order to get the best seats, one had to be in line at the Burbank Parks & Recreation building by 6 a.m. on a Monday in May. By the time I got there about 6 a.m., there were at least 25 people in front of me! I was thinking all the good seats would be gone by the time I got to the ticket counter. But miraculously, the best seats in the house were available! Turns out, all the folks in front of me wanted the Box Seats located way back, behind the reserved seats and in front of the lawn! So, that first year, I bought 6 front-row-center season tickets and made them available to friends and family. (And, for every 2 season tickets purchased, you got parking passes for all of the shows!)

That year began a tradition that has continued every year concerts have been held at the Starlight.

Another tradition began last year with Random Acts of Breadness becoming an intermission raffle prize sponsor. We donated six $50 Gift Cards to the Bowl (one for each of the six concerts) and every person in attendance had a chance to win one (raffle tix are given to each ticket holder as they come through the entrance gates). We'd experienced dozens of these raffles over the years with many prizes donated from small business owners; now we had a chance to be on the giving end. It was great to see the winners come to our bakery with their winning Gift Cards in hand, ready to sample  our wares and choose how to spend their Breadness Bucks!

Come join in the fun this summer by purchasing tickets to the Starlight Bowl City Concert Series! You can buy individual concert tickets or the season (5 concerts). There's a special July 4th concert and fireworks show that's sold separate from the series (you could win our Gift Card there, too!). Seats are selling fast so if you'd like to go, get your tickets as soon as possible...
