Children wearing their new Bothal Academy jumpers in front of the new school welcome sign

Welcome to WISE Academies!

This week saw the start of a new era for Central as we became part of the WISE Academies family. Children wore their new school jumpers for the first time as we changed our name to Central Academy, in line with all of WISE's 18 primary schools. Trust CEO Zoe Carr OBE and other members of the senior team visited both the upper and lower sites on Monday to meet staff and pupils on an exciting day for us all.

World Book Day

Pupils enjoyed a range of reading-related activities on World Book Day, including a live quiz to celebrate the National Year of Reading and author masterclasses on the ‘Authorfy’ website. All pupils received a free £1 book in exchange for their World Book Day token thanks to TJ Hughes in Morpeth! Here are some pupils from 1JP in their fantastic costumes.

Library visit for Year 3

Year 3 visited the library at Ashington Leisure Centre this week, where they took part in craft activities, explored the layout of the library and found out how to loan books with a library card.

Year 4 meet The Spirit Dog author

Year 4 also visited the library this week, where they met The Spirit Dog author Steve Bonham! Steve shared stories about his incredible adventures in Morocco, bringing the inspiration behind his book to life. The children loved asking thoughtful questions and even had the chance to play instruments along to some of the songs from the story. A truly inspiring and memorable experience for everyone involved!

Book Fair next week

We will be hosting our Scholastic Book Fair all next week (Monday March 9 to Friday March 13). The book fair will be open after school on Monday and Thursday plus every lunchtime during the week at the upper site and after school on Thursday at the lower site.  Upper site children are welcome to bring in cash to spend at lunch time and card payments or cash can be taken during the after-school sessions.

Election focuses on green issues

This week 5BT took part in a green Skills Builder Challenge, looking at local and global environmental issues from deforestation to dog fouling. Pupils picked a party to campaign for, practised their speeches and held an election. The Better Play Party won, with the Wise Bottles coming a close second. Great to see everyone take part so enthusiastically - the problems and solutions were very well thought out and articulated.

Repurposeful recycling

Still on the green agenda, Mrs Czerepok's class had a creative afternoon with recycled materials after teaming up with the Repurposeful CIC Scrapstore in Ashington.

Cock-a-hoop at Acro-Dance club
