We are excited to share that all of our middle school students are engaged in our January “Cold Weather, Warm Hearts” month of service.
Given that January is the coldest and darkest time of the year, a dedicated group of educators at the middle school (the SM Way team) came up with this idea as a way to spread positivity, fun and service to our community.
We are only a few weeks in and there are many awesome projects started. Some of the projects include reading to buddies at Rawson, answering questions about the middle school via video message for incoming 5th graders at E. W. Luther, putting together care bags for the homeless, picking up trash around the school and neighborhood, and the list goes on!
On February 2nd we’ll hold an all school assembly to celebrate and highlight all of the great service work that’s happened (and will continue to happen) around the school and the community.

The sixth graders worked hard since November to learn about their ethnicity. They researched a chosen country and wrote about subtopics that interested them. After they were done with their writing, they learned how to use Google Earth to create a project in Google Voyager where they could "travel" to different places in their country. The culminating event was bringing back the Ethnic Folk Fair where they could share their projects.

Sixth graders in Mrs. Braatz classes recently examined how elements are classified and were introduced to the Periodic Table of Elements.

8th grade students who attended the Jan 5th Freshman Preview Night were able to meet with activity and athletic group representatives and sign up online for next year. If you didn't sign up that night, or didn't attend the event, it's not too late.

Meet District Nurse Supervisor Stephanie Cahlamer. She's a pediatric critical care nurse, Pediatric SANE Forensic nurse, and Project Adam Advocate with experience as a flight nurse, an EMT and a Firefighter. She's also the head of a team that is more integrated in learning than ever. Modern school nursing programs are more than Band-Aids, ice packs, and hugs. Cahlamer's team manages health plans, administers medication, trains teachers and staff in emergency aid, and has a very big role in making sure medical needs do not stand in the way of the right to a free, appropriate public education.
