This is not about Sam!
While preparing this newsletter, I tested apps that promise to turn podcasts or blog posts into videos. Of course, these apps use AI to do it. And the results were extremely underwhelming. I have tested apps like these for years and am still waiting to get good results out of the box.
The problem is the media mix: Combining AI-generated voice, pictures, animations, and captions leads to a video nobody wants to consume. So far, repurposing your existing content into video will require human creativity to get a decent result. AI agents will help with this: Your agent is analyzing your existing content to ensure your AI-created content is consistent with your brand's voice.
In a recent blog post, Bill Gates talks about the revolution that is going to happen in the software industry because of AI: Agents are not only going to change how everyone interacts with computers. They’re also going to upend the software industry, bringing about the biggest revolution in computing since we went from typing commands to tapping on icons.
Practically, I imagine this future like an AI-operating system replacing the classic OS. Instead of a desktop operating system, I open up the AI interface (this could be a ChatGPT-like app) and organize all my life with it - with prompts and commands. Let us see if it becomes a reality or if we get an AI-enabled Clippy.
Stay fresh, Rolf

At least, that is what Bill Gates is writing in his newest blog post. Envisioned 30 years ago (insert Clippy joke here), AI tech is bringing us nearer the vision of interfaces that take commands via natural language and will make classic software programs obsolete. You tell your AI Agent what you want, and it figures out the details for you. In the blog post, he shares examples of how AI agents are used today already, across healthcare, education, and productivity.

In March 2022, we laughed at how bad AI is at drawing hands. Very often it generated 4 or 6 or 7 fingers, and sometimes 5. We have left that behind us long ago, and the results are getting to a level of detail that frightens creatives making a living by selling their visual work. The current situation could be similar to digital photography disrupting the world of professional photographers. It will be a few tumultuous years, but people will adapt. This 15min article looks at the pros and cons of AI-generated images and art, with many examples.

AI is a system of technologies, and Machine Learning is a subset of it. This blog post explains the differences for non-techies, with a practical example.

Ultraworking is a concept for knowledge workers to help boost productivity by strictly focusing on working on one project or set of tasks at a time. If you get distracted easily, switch to checking social notifications, etc., the concept might help you/your team a lot. This is how it works: - You set a goal - Start your first cycle - After each cycle, you take a short break and review your session - Do it for 6 cycles Get the Google Sheet and maximize your productivity. As a notoriously easily distracted person, I found this helpful and fun. At least when practiced in a group. ( explainer video)

tldraw is a web app for creating images and working on them as a group via a share link. The app developer has now added a feature to turn drawings into "the real thing." You need to connect your OpenAI Developer key to try out the feature. Depending on your drawing skills, the results can be decent. Watch my 1min demo. This is an experimental feature.

I recently shared PDFs with clients and wanted to add a watermark on the slides. I found Sejda, which is a site with several PDF task helpers. Compressing PDFs in size, merging PDFs, signing, and many more, all on this free site.
