Announcing SERCAL 2026 — May 18-20 in Fortuna!
We are super excited to FINALLY be hosting our conference and highlighting some of the incredible work of our colleagues in northernmost California. This will be, of course, an inclusive gathering in all respects — welcoming old and new colleagues from across the spectrums of regions, foci, experiences, and professions.
Humboldt County, here we come!
We've already lined out great fieldtrips and session themes with the local movers and shakers and we've also signed the dotted line with the River Lodge in Fortuna (photo) — it's the perfect blend of indoor/outdoor space — on the banks of the Eel River and a stone's throw from lodging.
Getting there, staying there
Driving from San Francisco? It's a 4.5 hour drive. Want to fly? The airport in Arcata/Eureka (ACV) has a bank of 250 rental cars for the 45-minute drive south to Fortuna. Four hotels are just a stroll away... plus camping! Plus great food and local ambience at the Eel River Brewing Company.
General Timelines
CALL FOR ABSTRACTS | The Call for Abstracts will be released in September — topics will include both regional and over-arching California themes. We've got a review team who will select abstracts, so for full consideration as a technical presenter, you'll need to upload your abstract to our Airtable base late October. Abstracts for poster presentations will be due mid November. All presenters will be notified before Thanksgiving of their acceptance.
EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION | Begins no later than December 7. We'll have capacity for just over 300 attendees, so First Come, First Served.
NEXT GENERATION | The Stipend application process begins in September through the end of October. Stipends will be awarded to presenters (posters or technical presentations). Stipend awardees will be notified before Thanksgiving. We'll have volunteer opportunities and VERY discounted registration rates for those we are not able to support with a stipend.
Lastly…
We're going to need to hold fast to the deadlines we are setting in order to create a smoother experience for our attendees. Every year, we work to improve from hard-won lessons. With your help, we'll be able to create a seamless process that we can carry with us to University of Redlands (2027) and Sacramento (2028). We can't wait to see you!
