Easter is almost upon us and we have a very busy month to look forward to. First of all, Phil Hendricks is hosting a general knowledge quiz on April 11th, for which the signup sheet may be found on the noticeboard. Later in the month, we have the return of Broadway favourite Robbie Culley, who will be bringing his signature brand of busking to the Club.

A word from our Chairman

Welcome all to our April newsletter.

It is with great sadness to inform you of the recent passing of two of our members.

Our long serving treasurer Alan Davey has passed away. Alan also acted as Club Secretary for some time and was fundamental in structuring and securing the clubs finances throughout the COVID pandemic and beyond. As a club we thank him for his service and dedication.

We have also learned that Michael "Cuthy" Cuthbert who has been a member for many years and captain of our second darts team has recently lost his battle against a longstanding illness.

Both Alan and Michael will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with their family and friends.

As a club we are very fortunate to have taken on a new treasurer in Barry Simons, who is very well qualified for this position, as well as being a club member. We wish him well. I would also like to place on record our appreciation for Guy Hillier for carrying on in the role of secretary until the AGM (unless I can persuade him to stay).

On a brighter note, all drinks will be £1 before 3pm on the first of this month.

Club matters

Club Secretary vacancy

Due to work commitments, Guy Hillier will be stepping down from the role of Club Secretary at the end of this month. The Broadway Club committee is seeking to appoint a new Club Secretary and we are initially inviting applications from members within the Club.

If you are interested in applying for the role or finding out more information, please email the Club at info@thebroadwayclub.co.uk and you will be sent further details.

Annual General Meeting

Please note that our AGM which was scheduled for Sunday 12th April has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The Committee will arrange a new date for the AGM in the fullness of time, but unlikely to take place before July this year. We thank you for your patience with this matter.

At the Club this month

Bingo night

It's time to assemble your best and brightest - quiz night returns at The Broadway.

Come on down to the Club on Saturday 11th April for our general knowledge quiz night. Teams should contain no more than six players and entries are charged at £2 per person, with cash prizes available for the top three teams.

If you would like to take part, simply add your name to the registration sheet on the noticeboard. We are taking food orders, which will need to be paid in full by Wednesday 8th April. If there is space, we can also accept entries on the night, but we warned that this event does tend to fill up quickly.

Join us on Saturday 25th April for the return of Robbie Culley

Hailing from Reading, Robbie had a musical childhood – performing in pantomimes and studying at musical theatre college. When the pandemic paused his performance plans, he found work as a scaffolder, which led to him posting singing videos on TikTok.

Robbie is now a regular performer at the Broadway and always brings fantastic energy. Don't forget to join us for a fantastic evening of entertainment.

Entry fee for guests will be £3, payable on the door.

Club Competitions

The Broadway Club cribbage team has had a successful season. Taking place on Wednesday evenings, they have been participating in the Three Counties Club Crib League. We are pleased to report that the team finished the league in the runners up position. Congratulations to our team members for this achievement, and we look forward to you going one better next season.

Meat raffle

Don't forget about our meat raffle, which takes place on Friday 26th April between 9pm and 10pm with some great prizes to be won. Tickets are available at the bar, payable in cash.
