What's Bloody next? A quick look ahead |
Hello. Thank you so much to everyone who splashed out on Bloody Miniatures release 6 (below) over the last month.
I really appreciate your support, and I hope you're enjoying the figures.

Inevitably, no sooner is one release out, than people start asking 'what's next?' (The insatiable nature of wargamers and collectors - thank goodness 😊)
So here's a quick update on the Bloody plan for the rest of this year.
The next release, currently on Nick Collier's workbench, will be our first four cavalry packs:
The Mounted Troopers Stern harquebusiers in tri-bar lobster pot helmets, back and breast, buff coats, carbines and pistols.
The Flashing Blades Dashing cavaliers: swords, big feathered hats, buff coats, flouncy clothing, lacy collars, cuffs, boot hose, and big sashes.
The Lobsters Grim-looked cuirassiers in three-quarters armour, with swords, pistols, hammers, axes.
The Moss Troopers Ride Dangerous malcontents and discharged soldiers: long coats, long hair, floppy hats, pistols and carbines.
There will be three figures in each mounted pack, very much in the Bloody style, oozing period character.
They'll also be available together as the 'A Thunder of Hooves' collection - 12 mounted figures and 12 horses.
I can't yet say exactly when they'll be out, but they're in the works, so I'm hopeful it will be by around early autumn. Watch this space.

A brisk about face... Following our first release of mounted figures, the next release after that (by the end of the year, I hope) will be 'A Regiment of Foot'.
In a shameless betrayal of the raison d'etre / design philosophy of Bloody Miniatures, this will be a 20-man company of pike and shot.
Despite spending two years trying to explain that the whole point of Bloody Miniatures is to provide different figures for the period (and not the same old stock types produced by every other manufacturer), I constantly get requests for rank and file pikemen and musketeers... Several wise counsellors have pointed out that I'm merely cutting off my nose to spite my face by refusing to countenance a deviation from the original Bloody concept. So why fight it? I give in 😉
Of course these won't be just any old pikemen and musketeers - these will be Bloody Miniatures pikemen and musketeers, brimming with personality and period detail, in the approved Bloody style.
It will be a five-pack release: eight different musketeers (two packs) in shooting, loading, at the ready, and advancing poses; eight different pikemen (two packs) in advancing / receiving / at the ready poses, plus a command pack of officer, drummer, ensign, and sergeant.
If you prefer a higher ratio of shot to pike, you'll be able to buy separate packs to add more musketeers. (Or indeed, other musket-armed figures, such as packs BM06 ‘The Squire’s Men’, BM08 ‘The Night Watch’, and BM037 ‘The Ragged Trayned Band’).
We're also looking at providing separate musket rests, so that you can turn your musketeers into 'early war' figures.
And now for something completely different...

I recently ran a big game using (mainly) Bloody Miniatures, based on the Battle of Maidstone, 1648. (As you can see, I had to put a LOT of buildings on the table!)
This little-known battle of the second Civil War was one of the fiercest and most dramatic encounters of the entire period, involving some six thousand combatants - and yet most people have never even heard of it, since it barely gets a mention in the history books.
On the 375th anniversary of the battle, I felt it was a story deserving of more attention. And with numerous small scale actions taking place in running battles throughout the streets, it's also a perfect battle to recreate with Bloody Miniatures. So I've written an in-depth article on the battle and how to set about wargaming it.
This will be published in two consecutive parts in the September and October issues of Wargames Illustrated magazine. Please do look out for it 😎
Meanwhile, here are a couple of in-game pics to whet your appetite...
