To better facilitate the integration of data science into the classroom, AR INBRE is establishing a community of practice for integrating research into the classroom. Undergraduate research is one of the most significant and high-impact practices available for improving student learning outcomes. Despite the documented value to students, Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) have proven difficult to widely implement due to the time required to design research projects that are affordable, approachable by undergraduates, relevant to course content, and packageable into fixed meeting periods. Working with the Cell Biology Education Consortium (CBEC), the AR INBRE community of practice will work to address these implementation challenges.
We are currently recruiting interested faculty to participate. Our community of practice will not be tied to a specific discipline or experimental design. A wide range of data analysis techniques can be employed to inform experiments across multiple disciplines. Our goal is to recruit interested faculty and tailor a modular/tiered project that suits a variety of institutions, research interests, and budgetary constraints.
We will identify and analyze novel data collected by research faculty at UAMS.
Faculty will collectively develop classroom implementation strategies for incorporating novel research into their classes and research labs.
Our faculty-led approach enables participants to join ongoing conversations in areas such as CURE design, implementation, and assessment that align most closely with their research/teaching interests, as well as their institutionβs needs.
