Hello Everyone! Hi! I hope you're enjoying your summer! My family and I attended a couple of sci-fi conventions this month. The first one was Trek Long Island in New York and the second was Boston Fan Expo in Massachusetts. I confess to being a long-time sci-fi nerd.
We had a table at Trek Long Island, selling books. One of the guests that weekend was an old friend of mine, Ethan Phillips, who played Neelix on Star Trek: Voyager (as well as Pete on the classic sit-com Benson, for those of us who are old enough to remember.). Back in the 90's a friend and I met him at a convention and we ended up running his official fan club for a number of years while the show was airing. I can't believe how much time has passed. I've changed a bit.
We went to Boston Fan Expo purely as fans. I was excited to meet Bryce Dallas Howard who, among many other things, played Claire Dearing in Jurassic World, my favorite of the Jurassic Park movies. She signed a toy for me. I also got to meet a number of other folks including Marisa Tomei and Cameron Monaghan. Cameron played Ian Gallagher on Shameless as well as Gotham's version of the Joker. I love how he signed my photo with HA HA HAs! He certainly knows how to play creepy!

What I'm Watching Jurassic Park Franchise To honor my favorite sci-fi franchise, this month I've decided to rank the current six Jurassic movies. (Yes, there is a 7th in the works!) This is my own ranking--I would love to hear your thoughts. Do you rank them differently?
#1 - Jurassic World (4th film): For years and years, Jurassic Park was my favorite movie of all time. That all changed when Jurassic World came out. (I felt guilty for a long time that I'd given up my favorite movie for another.) For me, Jurassic World is the perfect movie: excellent story, great characters and velociraptor Blue! It's full of Easter eggs from the first movie and we get to see Dr. John Hammond's vision of a theme park come to life--full of dinosaurs and visitors! A++

#2 - Jurassic Park (1st film): The original movie, a classic. I was a fan of this movie before I even saw it, having read the novel by Michael Crichton. Full of science, dinosaurs and excitement. An all-around great movie for dinosaur lovers! A+
#3 - Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom (5th film): For me, this movie won out over #4 simply because I love the Claire, Owen and Blue characters so much. Both are great movies. In Fallen Kingdom, volcanoes are destroying the island and our heroes have to return to save Blue. This one was unique in that the climax took place in an old gothic mansion which gave it the feel of a classic horror movie. Loved it! A

#4 - The Lost World Jurassic Park (2nd film): Once again, Michael Crichton wrote the novelization of this movie. In this case, I suspect the movie's storyline came first since (spoiler alert) Crichton had to resurrect Ian Malcom from the dead after killing him off in book one. Malcom was the only returning character this time around. The film takes place on an alternate island known as Site-B. Another great movie, and the trailer/cliff scene was killer! A

#5 - Jurassic World Dominion (6th film): This movie brought together all the main characters from Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, something fans had been longing for! My only issues with this movie were 1) our two groups of Park/World heroes had separate story lines and didn't actually meet up until near the end of the movie and 2) (spoiler alert) Dinosaurs are now roaming free on the planet in large numbers and yet not a lot of explanation was given on how that happened in the short four years that followed the events of Fallen Kingdom. Despite the extensive spread of the dinosaurs it seems like an incredible coincidence that our two groups of heroes would end up in the same place, the Biosyn Sanctuary in northeast Italy, at the same time. In spite of these things, still a great movie. A-

#6 - Jurassic Park III (3rd film): The only movie without a catchy subtitle, JP III was a fun movie that featured the return of Alan Grant. Unfortunately this movie seemed to be missing a lot of the interesting story elements of the other films, and in my opinion it seemed to end rather abruptly. Still a good movie if you enjoy watching hungry dinosaurs chasing terrified people. B
