This Colloquium will be the fourth international conference sponsored by ITZI, the International Zen Therapy Institute. We are aiming to bring together fifty people with an interest in Buddhist psychology, its nature, development, application and relevance to the contemporary world. It will be a residential colloquium held in northern Spain in an excellent venue, secluded in the mountains, that we have used before and know well. This is a good place for a colloquium. Previous conferences in this series have been very enjoyable gatherings and have included a wide variety of presentations. There is limited accommodation so early booking is advisable. The cost is 320€ fully residential.

THE BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAMME
Some Buddhist Psychology students are now approaching the end of the training course. In six weeks time, there will be some graduates from the current revised programme. Much discussion is going on about how this learning community, which has become so fruitful, can continue to grow and develop beyond the training. The basic principles are that trained people can help others and trained people can go on developing. So we shall be looking at ways of creating the best conditions - the infrastructure - for this to happen. This should further enrich the programme, lead to further development of the presentation of BP itself, and foster a creative space where we can all learn and grow together. The blossoming of the BP programme has certainly injected much vitality into the sangha.
Seminars:
This past Saturday we had two contrasting BP seminars. In the morning I gave a talk on the balance between intuition, experience and knowledge in the practice of psychotherapy. The Buddhist psychological theories provide a mapping of the mind and mental function including perception, emotion, conceptualisation, proliferation, intention, attitude and action. But a map is only a map: one still has to walk the territory in order to really know it. Thus the training includes much interactional work to build experience and cultivate the intuition.
In the afternoon, Alejandro introduced us to models of communication in the context of peace building and conflict resolution with emphasis both on the most basic level of actually getting people and parties to the table and the most profound level where generativity emerges beyond mutual empathy. A very useful discussion ensued.
The next seminars will be on 6th April 10:00 & 18:00

DEEPENING BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY
Path and Encounter
David Brazier & Iris Dotan Katz
Buddhist psychology is not really concerned with making one into something that one is not, but rather with reaching deeper into what one already is. The Dharma is the fundamental source of our being. We spontaneously recognise it as love, compassion, joy and peace. This recognition is something we already have. It is an unconditional gift. Some call it Buddha nature, but we should not get carried away by the idea that we are all buddhas. The source is not a personal possession. A certain humility is necessary. When we are in touch with the unconditioned, we encounter one another in a new spirit and creative things happen. This is the basis of therapy, of spiritual accompaniment, of deep encounter. It is what is lost in the maelstrom of materialism, superficiality and self-centredness that dominates the contemporary world. This is a workshop to support our practice, restore our recognition of what really matters and meet one another in the safety of the Dharma.
