On the beach...

Year 4 pupils had a fantastic day exploring the beautiful coastline at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea.

Class 4AN were at East Beach yesterday where they enjoyed a fun sand sculpting competition and created brilliant bird nests using sand, shells and seaweed.

They then set off on a two-mile coastal walk to Lynemouth Beach to learn all about migrating shorebirds and the challenges these amazing birds face, using binoculars and identification guides to spot different species. The children also took part in a litter pick and discussed the dangers of plastic pollution to wildlife.

After lunch, they explored rockpools and discovered a variety of marine life using trays, tally sheets and identification guides. The fun continued with outdoor games on the beach. 4AN showed excellent teamwork, curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day and were a credit to the school. Everyone returned tired, sandy and full of wonderful memories!

Huge demand for Reception places this September

We're delighted to confirm that every Central Nursery child whose parent applied for Reception this September was successful with their first choice. It is great to see so many parents wanting their children to join our fantastic school and share in our ongoing success.

Cress testing

After our recent cress growing competition we have used our five senses to explore our new produce. Mrs Czerepok was the winner as she used soil which is full of nutrients. But some members of the class did not like the taste of the cress! Watch out for news of our next growing competition.

Children will collect a daily stamp for each day they attend school. Every child with a full card will receive a prize and be entered into a special draw to win a prize that is truly out of this world! Every day counts – you have to be in it to win it! Let’s work together to build strong attendance habits this term.

Police concern over illegal use of electric motorbikes

Police are asking parents to ensure their children are not riding electric bikes like Sur-Ron and Revvi illegally on roads, pavements, parks and public spaces. An increasing number of the bikes are being ridden by children and young people under the age of 16, creating serious risks around road safety and anti-social behaviour. Officers are also concerned that young people using these bikes may be vulnerable to exploitation as they are often used to support criminal activity including drug supply. To support awareness and prevention Northumbria Police has produced the attached parent/carer information newsletter which you can download by clicking on the image above.

Special sport-themed lunch menu
