FIRST SPRING STEWARDSHIP DAY!

Please join us at our first spring Campus Biodiversity Initiative stewardship day on Friday January 30. Hundreds of plants grown by students at Shone Farm are waiting to be planted in their new home. Grab some gloves, join the fun, and help us plant something meaningful together. No experience is needed!
NEW THIS SPRING - Students who attend 2 or more stewardship days and write a short reflection are eligible for a $200 scholarship from Avanzando! Click here for the flyer.

  • When? Friday January 30 from 9:00-11:00. Please sign up at the RSVP link below to help us plan, but if you decide last-minute, come anyway! We’d love to have you!
  • Where? Meet in the large mulched area between Lindley, Baker Hall, and the Bech Lot
  • What Should I bring? We can provide tools and gloves, but if you are able to bring work gloves for your personal use, that would be helpful. Bring water and clothes that will keep you comfortable in the weather

REPORT FROM OUR DECEMBER EVENT

We had around 50 community members join us on December 12 to honor the site of our newest native plant garden and plant close to 1500 plants from over 30 species. A special thank you to Brenda Flyswithhawks for blessing this space and to all who have helped with the creation of this garden.

Interested in seeing what species we planted? Check out this link to our Calscape Plant List

You can see more pictures from the event from SRJC's Instagram here.

The SRJC Campus Biodiversity Initiative is a partnership between students, staff, faculty, and community members working to enhance campus as habitat for native plants and animals and as an educational resource for our community. Through hands-on, outdoor work, we create connections with nature, build community and support mental well-being while making a positive impact on campus.

Partners include the Biology Department, Environmental Horticulture Program, the Avanzando Initiative, SRJC Native American Center, SRJC Inter-Tribal Student, SRJC American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES), SRJC Biology Club, SRJC Outdoor Club,  Union and SRJC Facilities Operations. Contact jpalladini@santarosa.edu if you'd like to get involved.

This program is funded by a grant from the Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation
Randolph Newman Cultural Enrichment Endowment.
