It’s been a crazy winter where I live, with temperatures fluctuating wildly, instead of remaining freezing cold like they normally do, which has led me to have more colds than is normal for me.
These last few weeks, I’ve been under the weather. Nothing serious. A bit of a cough here, a slight runny nose there. Until a few days ago. The cough was getting progressively worse, until I was coughing hard enough that it was making my back hurt. Until I coughed so hard, I heard a pop and a crack before feeling the most excruciating pain in my back. I had to have my husband help me up from the couch and to a chair to sit down. This hurt so much that I couldn’t catch a proper breath for a few minutes. Forget tears in my ears, my tears were running down my face. It was probably one of the least fun times I’ve ever had.
That‘s why I made the decision to go to the hospital when the pain wasn’t subsiding. I’m in my forties, things crack and pop all the time and usually get better after a little rest. This did not get better.
Surprisingly, I didn’t have to wait too long to get x-rays and see a doctor, who proceeded to tell me that he thinks I’ve caused a little trauma to the cartilage around my ribs. Thankfully, I didn’t crack them, because that’s where my mind went.
This happened around dinner time last night, and since then I’ve gotten approximately four hours of broken sleep. Oh, and the medicine he prescribed for my cough isn’t helping much so I’m breathing extra slowly to try and head off another coughing fit. It’s frustrating, and only moderately successful.
To top it all off, yesterday (before the cough that nearly broke my back), we reset the clock on Rocky’s seizures. He’s had a few since yesterday afternoon, and, since I can barely move right now, I can’t bend over to pet him properly when he has one. They have been mercifully short, though, and he comes out of them just as I’m considering saying damn the consequences and throwing myself on the floor to comfort him.
Anyway, that’s why this week‘s Roomie Review is a little on the short side.
