Workshop and RSMA Exhibition

STOP PRESS!

I'm very excited to announce that next September 2027, my old friend and superb painter, Nigel Fletcher and I, will be teaching a workshop together in deepest Yorkshire, at the HQ of Rosemary & Co Brushes, Carr Head Hall Country Estate. It will run for five full days and the package includes your accommodation, all your food for the week - breakfast, lunch and dinner (which is excellent!), entertainment in the evenings and a couple of special trips out, and altogether a very convivial time with Rosemary and her brilliant team, who really know how to look after you! And of course, close-up tuition from me and Nigel!

Barker and Fletcher Workshop Sept 2027

One other alert - the Gallery will be CLOSED this coming Wednesday 16th September, because I will be at the Private View (PV) of the Royal Society of Marine Artists Annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, London.

If any of you fancy seeing the show, the entry fee is £7 on any day from 16th to 26 September, open 10am to 5pm. But, if you would like to attend the PV as my guest, between 5pm - 8.30pm next Wednesday 16th, with speeches and prize-giving at 6.30pm, presented by Sally Kettle, World Record Atlantic Rower, there is no charge. Just reply to this email and I'll send you an e-vite by return.

You can view the whole exhibition online, HERE

and below are my own offerings, and you can buy them online by clicking on the titles to go through to the relevant page of the Mall Galleries website.

'Working Boats at Mevagissey'

Oil 12 x 16 inches

£1575

Why did I paint this one so relatively small!? It was a joy to finish this, so complex was all the paraphernalia on a couple of fishing boats, but I loved the finished result!

'Summer Mooring, Brancaster Staithe'

Oil 11 x 15 inches

£1350

I've painted this boat a good few times over the years, but I really loved this composition - that lovely cool blue shadow with the dark ropes on the bow, and sunlit light-coloured ropes from the stern. That gorgeous, warm ochre-coloured mud in the foreground was particularly joyous to describe.

'Mevagissey Outer Harbour'

Pastel 13 x 19 inches

£1350

I've painted a similar view of this a few years ago, but fancied trying it in Pastel. Quite a complicated backdrop, looking straight into the sun, with zinging highlights on the water.

'Red Fishing Boat at Brancaster Staithe'

Oil 8 x 12 inches

£895

Turning around from the last painting, I painted this view along the towpath, with moor narrowboats tied-up. The owner of the far boat erected a large white umbrella to shade from the vicious heat of the sun, so the title for this painting was right there!

'Shining Mud, Brancaster Staithe'

Oil 14 x 20 inches

£2150

Another one of my favourite painting place in Norfolk. It was vital to get all the relative tones right, and the hook was that blinding reflected sunlight on the mud just above the wooden posts.
