New School Resource Officers Serve and Protect in South Milwaukee Schools
It takes a certain type of person to work with children – especially when you are a police officer.
This school year, the District was assigned two new school resource officers by the South Milwaukee Police Department. They are officers Adam Harnen and Jakob Horsley.
Horsley, a South Milwaukee alum, is new to the profession – he was sworn into duty in January, while Harnen has been an officer for three and a half years. Both received specialized training to work in schools.
“We’re here to keep students and the school community safe,” Harnen said. “But I want to make a difference with kids and be a role model for kids.”
South Milwaukee is once again partnering with TutorMe to give you unlimited, free access to online tutoring in over 300 subjects! Did we mention that you can access TutorMe 24/7? Just log onto Clever, double-click the TutorMe icon, and connect with an expert tutor in seconds!
See below for the most recent guidance for the 2022-23 school year. It greatly simplifies when to test, when to stay home, and when a mask needs to be worn. This information is also available on the District website.
South Milwaukee High School is once again partnering with the League of Women Voters to register eligible high school students to vote. Students from Teacher Heather Hanson's American Government class will be trained by the League of Women Voters and then they will coordinate the event.
Students who will be 18 by the Spring Election will be able to register. Registration will be available on Monday Oct. 3rd during National Voter Education Week.

We are all responsible for keeping our school community safe.
If you see something, say something. If you're concerned or worried about a child, it's better to report and be wrong than keep it to yourself and be right.
South Milwaukee schools proudly participate in SPEAK up and SPEAK Out - a state-wide anonymous tip line for residents to share safety concerns about our children.
If your student rides their bike to school, make sure they have a lock. Please ask them to use the bike racks, not a tree or pole!
You won't believe your eyes, he REALLY looks like John Denver
South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center is proud to present John Denver Musical Tribute starring Ted Vigil.
The legendary John Denver’s music was a combination of romance— “Annie’s Song;” folk— “Leavin’ On A Jet Plane;” country— “Thank God I’m A Country Boy;” and environmentalism— “Calypso.”
Ted Vigil had been writing, recording, and performing his original compositions, leading to winning the national title for Talent Quest in Laughlin, Nevada, in 2006.
After this win, Ted began to plan a John Denver tribute show and began singing his way all over the U.S. In 2010, he performed with John Denver’s lead guitarist, Steve Weisberg.
