BUDDHIST PSYCHOLOGY WEEKEND
This past weekend, we had a stimulating and often very moving weekend of Buddhist Psychology with presentations on a wide variety of subjects and much discussion.
- David Brazier spoke about “Analytical Zen Therapy”, how the intensity of Buddhism that one finds in a Japanese monastery can be replicated in the consulting room.
- Kimiko Nita, in “Deepening Relationships Through Naikan”, gave us an introduction to this important approach to personal transformation.
- Iris Dotan Katz, “Dukkha without Solution”, spoke of her experience being in Israel in the present circumstances and of the role of psychological understanding.
- Yaya De Andrade spoke about Buddhist practice and “Challenges & Skilful Means in Relationships”.
- Natividad Menendez in “Approaching Oneself as the ‘Other’ Other”, ventured upon the theme of how we should regard ourselves, and finally
- Iris & Yaya had a dialogue on "Aging & Death" which stimulated much discussion & reflection.
All of these presentations were recorded and some of the recordings may be available on enquiry via Jisshas.

Although form does not ultimately matter, in practical terms it is good to establish a place of practice. Make an altar and have space close by where you can sit and contemplate and practise. Keep this space in good order. Go there and practise nembutsu regularly. And practise nembutsu at other times, as often as possible. When you are walking to the shops, Namo Amida Bu. When you are hanging out the washing, Namo Amida Bu. As you go to sleep at night, Namo Amida Bu. All the time. This is the main thing. Then, in support, study Buddhism and carry the spirit of practice into daily life in your work, leisure & relationships. Attend sangha events. Support other practitioners. Simple. Namo Amida Bu.
